CNN poll: Most Americans think Osama will attack us again.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/08/22/osama.poll/index.html

As the five-year anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks approaches, nearly three-fourths of those responding to a CNN poll said they believe Osama bin Laden is planning another significant attack against the United States.

Seventy-four percent of the 1,033 adult Americans polled said they believe an attack is being planned, according to the poll conducted by Opinion Research Corporation on behalf of CNN.

CNN is scheduled to broadcast the documentary "In the Footsteps of bin Laden" at 9 p.m. ET tonight.
------------------------------

The only way out is to foil a spectacular plot and capture or kill Osama or someone who looks like him after being blown up by a bunker buster.

17. osama has his own roll
i think it would be naive to say that osama is happy to sit back in the cave and smoke weed and tell himself his work here is done

i'm sure he is funding little schools where hate and ignorance is taught all over pakistan and afghanistan, maybe he doesn't personally plot out every little hair-brained plot, but i don't doubt that his money is circulating in an attempt to cause harm to our interests

4. Is this the same poll that says 'Murkins trust Bushco on terror?
:wtf:

How can they trust the people who let Bin Laden go?

5. That's exactly why he hasn't been killed or captured.
Much more valuable to our government if he's out there; he's a tool for them. Showing an occasional tape (like right before 2004 election) and bringing him up in stories like this helps the "war on terror" advocates accomplish their goals.

7. That was my first thought, too,
but as i understand it he was pretty solidly implicated in the embassy bombings, and claimed credit for them, so I guess that would count. Less solid connection to the Cole bombing. And he flat out denied credit for the most successful attack for over two years -- that makes me wonder. Radical muslims around the world applauding him and he's saying "but it wasn't me, guys, really!" Does that make sense? It wasn't as if we were going to say, "Oh, my mistake, let's go home" at his protestations. He had nothing to gain by denying responsibility, whether he did it or not.

I think we owed him one for the embassy bombings, but that has been paid off in full by this time.

18. which fbi is this? plenty of evidence!
i think the evidence of his involvement in the embassy and cole bombings is beyond dispute, and if he's gotten better at funneling his money thru stooges since then, the people dead in the embassies and on the cole are still dead, and he can damn well be hunted down and tried for that even if you think it's quite hopeless to unsnarl the money trail to his other evil deeds

12. Grover Norquist SAID bagging bin Laden part of GOP fall strategy
Grover Norquist almost pathologically reveals the GOP game plan, from telling Greg Palast of the BBC about author parts of the plan to privatize and steal Iraq's oil, and at other times has spoken admiringly of what Pinochet did in Chile.

He also said that the GOP would win in November by bagging Zarqawi and bin Laden well before Zarqawi was killed.

You might remember too that before Zarqawi was taken out, he got a raised profile in the news with that odd misfiring rifle video.

Now after years of silence, we are suddenly hearing about bin Laden again.

I actually hope that this is the October Surprise instead of another 9/11, which would have to be worse than 9/11 to have the same psychological effect.

3 things about killing Zarqawi

Top GOP strategist Grover Norquist said back in January this was part of their plan to win the November 2006.

...And then for the coup de grace, says Norquist, his baby face breaking into a wide grin: "We'll bring in al-Zarqawi and Osama Bin Ladin."

That Osama trick would only work if they did it a few days before the election--maybe even the day OF the election, so people stay home to watch the news instead of go out to vote.

***

The day after I wrote the entry above, Zogby released a poll saying catching Osama wouldn't help Bush at all:

Asked how much credit would be due President Bush if bin Laden were caught,

  • 52% said they would give him no credit because he turned his attention instead to Iraq after the war in Afghanistan.

  • 28% would give him all the credit, while
  • 17% said he would deserve some of the credit.

  • The President’s job approval rating in fighting against terrorism would be at 42% if bin Laden were found, the poll shows, which is about where he is right now – with bin Laden still on the loose.

15. More than 80% expect a homeland terrorist attack within 6 months
That's the most amazing number I've seen all year and I've mentioned it many times. It has gone up by 5% in the last couple of months. Strategic Vision asks that question in its state polls and every state spits out something like 81% yes, 7% no and 12% undecided.

Or would that be "the minority that answers CNN polls?"

19. And will George just sit there a do nothing..*.AGAIN?*
And will George ignore warnings that this will happen...AGAIN?
And will George fly all of Osama's relatives out of the USA before they're questioned...AGAIN?
And will George declare war on ANOTHER country that had nothing to do with the attack...AGAIN?
And will George expose an American intelligence operation tracking terrorism...AGAIN?

...you get the picture.

22. What "most Americans think" and what is realistic may well be
two completely different things by now.

What is it based on? There is no way to know what Osama is or is not planning. It is possible he is dead.

Maybe he is planning another big attack. But there is no reason to assume that.

Terra, terra, terra.
