Connecticut's secretary of the state says Sen. Joe Lieberman has gathered |
|
... enough signatures to run for re-election with a new party.
- - - - -
This according to the breaking news headline at CNN.
Okay, so what party? And what are the Dems going to do and say about it?

5. I wonder how the MSM will label him now, though. |
|
If he is clearly running as a member of a different/unique party, has he severed ties with the Democrats? Or can we sever ties with him? This seems as official as any other sort of party defection.

8. Under Connecticut law, he has severed all ties with the Dems |
|
It seems that Connecticut holds that party registration be revoked when a person is registered with one party and then runs as a candidate under any banner other than the one with which he is registered. So now that his candidacy as "Party of One" (or whatever) is official, he is no longer a registered Democrat.

2. It was a very low standard, a few thousand signatures . . . |
|
And Ned Lamont is going to have to run a very effective campaign. I personally think Lieberman will fade pretty quickly -- disloyalty doesn't generally play well, but it's really up to Lamont and the team around him to win.

4. And his campaign started collecting them long before the primary |
|
Just in case, mind you. Just in case.
How's that for party loyalty?

9. I also think he will fade. People that know zilch about politics know tha |
|
that when a person loses - they lose. Go home.
My Republican sister even said when Gore won the popular vote but not the electoral vote - that it was stupid.
People know the difference between lose and win. Joe lost. The people of CT have spoken.

15. So Joe Has His Own Party, Competing With Dem Nominee, does it mean... |
|
...Joe is an opposition candidate, and no different from a Democrat that changed parties to become a Republican? or Libertarian? or Green Party Candidate? He is in a party different from the Democratic Party, Connecticut has recognized that. So has he not abandoned his Democratic Party association benefits? Committee Assignments? Party Assistance?
I don't see it as the Democratic Party kicking him out, as much as it is Joe who left the Democratic Party. He is not a Democrat by his own choosing.
And if Democrats on Capitol Hill want to support Joe against Lamont, they can join Joe's new party and give up their Democratic Party association benefits as well.
What is difficult to understand here???
