WTF?? RNC attacks Kos for taking a vacation????

Making Kos toxic — because he took a vacation
Posted 1:15 pm | Printer Friendly

The Republican National Committee, which has generally perfected the fine art of the smear piece, published a very odd attack on Markos Moulitsas Zuniga today, referring to him as a "nutroot" who runs a "hate-filled" blog.

Whether you're a fan of Kos or not, the very first item on the RNC's list of complaints is one of the strangest complaints I've seen in a long while:

Daily Kos Blogger Markos Moulitsas Zuniga Back From "Relaxing" Vacation:

Moulitsas Just Got Back From Summer Vacation: "I got back from El Salvador really early this morning, so I'm still catching up on the last week's news." (The Daily Kos Website, www.dailykos.com, Accessed 8/22/06)

Moulitsas: "I'm still playing catchup after my very relaxing, very nice vacation." (Daily Kos Website, www.dailykos.com, Accessed 8/22/06)

Maybe I'm missing something here. Are we supposed to be disgusted with Kos for "relaxing"? Are vacations now bad? Or is the point that Kos is somehow suspect because he went to El Salvador?

I understand the broader point. The Republicans like to make certain progressive figures so toxic, Dems will want to keep their distance (see Moore, Michael). In this context, the RNC doesn't want Dems to advertise on Daily Kos, and wants to lambaste anyone who does for contributing to a "hate" site.

But what in the world is the point of blasting Kos for taking a "relaxing vacation"?

Kos should have done what Bush does

lie and call it a working vacation, then have public photo ops where he does meaningless menial labor

9. How much more desperate can you get?
Everything they thought they had won is melting away, like the witch in Oz. Who can be played by Ann Coulter, without missing a beat. Just act naturally.

The tactic of appealing to people's baser instincts is highly effective, as Hitler proved. But it can't last forever. It can't immunize you against YOUR bad actions. Demonizing your opponent works, but if you're the real demon, it comes out in the wash.

11. They're Attacking Kos for Being a Strong, Popular, Liberal Voice

The GOP is doing whatever they can to keep Democratic/liberal *leaders* from emerging or maintaining any level of public respect.

And it's really funny because, if you saw George Stephanopolis' "State of the Union" special, it was Republicans who complained that Dems disrespect the people they called, "our leaders,' but really meant their leaders.

13. Too Bad...
Frontpager Kossack Armando Lloréns-Sar was outed by The National Review as an attorney working on behalf of Walmart.

An antitrust lawyer out of Puerto Rico who, during his time filling in for Kos as the "front page diarist", wrote a number of pro-corporate articles, of ... without disclosing that he is a corporate attorney promoting these same issues for his clients. For example, in this post Lloréns-Sar takes the pro-corporate position that modern anti-trust law is based on activist judges' rulings and not as the law as written. He fails to mention that he recently represented Wal-Mart in an anti-trust capacity in Puerto Rico.

A Daily Kos guy working for Wal-Mart? No wonder he doesn't want anyone to know.

How progressive is that? And Armando continues to write his pseudo progressive crap along with his anti-Chavez tripe.

"I am virulently anti-Communist, anti-Castro, dislike and distrust Chavez, and believed the Soviet Union was an Evil Empire." states the wanker.
