Surprise! Bush-lover "Rocky" V from NOLA...IS A GOP POL!!
Is it too much to ask that our liberal media do a little checking? Digby wondered too…

Attywood:

In fact, we had a hunch — that maybe, just maybe, Rockey Vaccarella had a background himself in GOP politics.

And, whaddya know? Turns out that the earthy Vaccarella — a highly successful businessman in the fast-food industry — is indeed a Republican pol, having run unsuccessfully under the GOP banner for a seat on the St. Bernard Parish commission back in 1999. We don’t have a good link, but here (via Nexis) is part of his bio that ran in the New Orleans Times-Picayune on Oct. 15, 1999:

ROCKEY VACCARELLA
PERSONAL
Republican
35. Born in New Orleans. Grew up in Arabi and Chalmette. Lived 11 years in
Meraux.
Married, two children.
Graduated from Chalmette High, 1982. Attended St. Bernard Community
College.
Director of operations, Lundy Enterprises, as manager of 31 Pizza Hut
restaurants and 450 employees. Former general restaurant manager of Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuits on East Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette.

And you don't want the media to do ACTUAL fact checking, do you? C'mon, that is SO 1970'ish.

6. Of course, why else could this guy just take a little trip and get into
the White House, talk directly to Bush, and have a photo-op?

7. The same media outlets who are
playing this like he just happened to show up and * just happened to be available and came out, is the same media that for the past two days have showed the guy decorating his trailer (Ya think he actually lives in it? That would be interesting to find out.)and his car and telling all he had an appointment to meet with * and cook him a nice Cajun meal in his trailer/home.

I know most everyone was on Ramsey overload, but I've been seeing this guy on national and local news for the past two days.

I didn't know about his past GOP connection. Gee, color me surprised!

9. If Bush and the Repugs spent as much time actually trying to do something
good for New Orleans, like clean it up, fix it, and restore it, vs. a photo op, they wouldn't have to photo op a fake story about how wonderful things are - they could be showing the results of their efforts.

But they would never do that, nothing in it for them.

10. Not surprising
I saw this guy on the news last night and he said something to the effect of, "We don't have poor people living under bridges in this country like they do in other countries." I think that pretty much says it all.

13. This was no secret
People down here knew he had a little political background, we all do.

He was a poster boy for the ones who have made it back. My family adores him.
I think this could backfire if we try to take this down.

On nationwide TV this morning his 'little political background' was not highlighted as much as wished that Bush could "serve anotehr 4 years".

22. He is a symbol down here
There are actually MANY who have gotten back on their feet and appreciate the assistance we were able to get. (I have dozens of relatives all around the area and with one exception they are back in their house or have found different housing.) AND WE DON"T WANT IT TO STOP!! If we destroy Rockey, we destroy his message, keep helping.

im glad your relatives have done ok after katrina but i dont think we can allow this kind of bs psyop to go unchallenged, no one is talking about destroying the guy, just pointing out he is not exactly the unbiased non partisan everyman he is being made to appear to be.

edit

this guys timing stinks

"As next week's anniversary of Hurricane Katrina triggers recollections of rooftop refugees and massive devastation along the Gulf Coast, the White House has begun a public relations blitz to counteract Democrats' plans to use the government's tardy response and the region's slow recovery in the coming congressional elections."

so he is just part of the pr blitz

We can demolish most photo ops for the last 50 years as being partisan, it just happens no matter who is President.

For this man to thank Bush for what he did for Katrina victims and wish him another term is an insult to Louisianans and Mississippians. Just mho.

37. Well they can't see around them then
For everyone that is back on their feet - how many have dead bodies still in their homes, no home at all, no possessions, dead loved ones?

Sorry, those who are living hell on earth far outweigh those who got help. That's the message that needs to be pounded over rocky's freaking head.

Because turds don't float!

You need to send the link to KO and ask him to take a look. The more folks he hears from the higher the odds are that he will check this story out.

Actually, the anchor (can't remember who she was) suggested that he should "run for something because he seems to know how to get things done ... I mean, you were able to meet with the President and all". He brought up that he had run but had been defeated. :puke:
