White House Begins Katrina Anniversary "PR Blitz"

As next week's anniversary of Hurricane Katrina triggers recollections of rooftop refugees and massive devastation along the Gulf Coast, the White House has begun a public relations blitz to counteract Democrats' plans to use the government's tardy response and the region's slow recovery in the coming congressional elections.

President Bush will visit the area Monday and Tuesday, including an overnight stay in New Orleans. He probably will visit the city's Lower 9th Ward, the heavily black area that remains mired in debris, and is expected to meet with storm victims.

My first reaction is disgust at the gall of these people to think they can spin this as a success of some sort.

My second is....How can they possibly spin this to make themselves look good????

3. As a Katrina victim, I'll simply say he can go fuck himself

If we had competent leaders, those levees in New Orleans would rival the levees found in the Netherlands.

If we had competent leaders, there would've been an adequate mass transit system to allow the poor to flee better, and there would've been action plans in place to evacuate the sick, elderly, and anyone else needing help.

No, our action plan is, "If a hurricane comes and you can't get out, tough shit; you're on your own."

The sad part is they all knew Katrina was coming, yet they did nothing. When that sucker was still hundreds of miles out there in the Gulf, they could've sent hundreds of Grayhound busses and set up a bussing schedule for New Orleans and the Mississippi coast.

They didn't.

4. I'm sure the "who he'll meet with" will be pre-ordained...
I don't think anyone featured in the Spike Lee doc on HBO will get to speak to the Prezidunce.

5. I thought they were going to ignore the Katrina anniversary,
or at least give it their best shot. I thought they were going to make an even bigger deal out of the 9/11 5-year anniversary to try and drown out (Freudian slip there!) the Katrina commemorations of others.

I concur with your question at the end: "How can they possibly spin this to make themselves look good????"

Damned if I know...except by piling on the lies even thicker than usual?

7. Hopefully more people will see Spike Lee's show...
That will most definitely set the record straight. What a powerful show.

And if they do another damn photo op in the Lower 9th Ward, I sure as hell hope that N.O. people there riot & yell (like "Go fuck yourself, Bush!")...

9. Bush has no option...
he simply has to go down there. He and his cohorts will get whatever flack is coming their way anyway but at least by being there he can project an image of being involved. It's not going to matter squat to anyone who posts here but it will be seen in a positive light by republicans and possibly also by some of the few remaining fence-sitters.
