I live in TX, 1700ish sq ft. home, approaching $300/month. But it's been really hot.

6. Here in Washington....
We have the option to purchase green power from our utilities. It does cost more than coal fired power, but I am willing to pay the price.

see the current political landscape in TX?

Is Perry gone? Is Hutchison gone? Is Cornyn gone? Edwards? Barton? et al.?

As far as I'm concerned they are.

Is Bell in? Or, is it Kinky?

2 people, 1000 sf ranch - gas water heater. I keep the AC at 80. - and thank god still regulated electric. Deregulated gas was such a massive failure they didn't dare inflict deregulated electric on the voters.

8. I didn`t use more than usual,1200 killowatts
but this stupid repug governor in KY.modernized the tax code so we have a fuel charge, enviromental charge and school tax on our electric bill it amounts to about a twenty percent increase.People that use natural gas have had about a two hundred percent increase in the past six years.Ironically new gas wells are being drilled everyday in my area and they hit gas in almost everyone even oil and they are not even drilling for it.My aunt has a gas well on her property that has been producing for 37 years now.Just think how much money that well has made the gas co.

18. Holy macaroni
A bill like that would turn my grocery shopping into a bean and rice extravaganza, out of necessity. I too live in a small 2-bedroom upstairs/downstairs, every bulb has been swapped for a flourescent, and the thermostat is set at 78. This month's bill -- $80. And this is in steamy southeast Virginia.

this is in Fl..window units.only used when room is occupied.........we had "new" digital meters put in...and they are read from the company's auto.......I hate these meters as they don't show how much one has used to date.
oh and we can "buy" a usage meter for $450 to verify the power we used....isn't that "nice of them?:sarcasm:

14. Just got on a level pay plan...
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 11:17 AM by TheGoldenRule
that will cost $125 a month-our electric co is regulated thank goodness! Our house is about 1600 sq ft and is all electric, but the furnace hasn't worked since last winter. Luckily, we also have a wood stove to heat the place which worked well except for one room that was hard to heat. Before the furnace broke, our bill had been averaging about $85 for summer months and about $225 for the winter, which was down from the $300 it got to for a couple of months when we didn't monitor the heat like we should have. We plan on getting a new heat pump/furnace soon and that should make things more energy efficient around here even with air conditioning (yippee!)-or so my husband says-which hopefully might bring that level pay plan down even more! :D

We live in a 900sqft duplex and we keep our AC on 82 and it still keeps going up. In the winter it was only about $120.

20. It's higher this year, but
It's been hotter, and we installed a second window unit. My wife won't let me open the windows and use fans like i would myself, I such a cheap bastard I'd rather sweat than give our utility company a dime.
Still it's been manageable, our highest so far has been 72.00, the utulity co. has gone to the board of public utilities to request a rate increase of 21%.
They won't get that much, but they'll probablly get somekind of increase.

21. Small flat; small bill
I just moved from all utilities included to paying for electric. After the security deposit and start-up fee, it was $22. But I live in a small studio, using air conditioning for sleeping when it's too hot. I keep experimenting without it and have been acclimatising, so the bill should shrink.

23. MIne has been hovering around $210-215 per month, and that is GREAT!
This time last year, my bills were between $275 and 325 a month in the summer. I had central AC installed and got rid of 2 old window units. This (40 year old 1400 sq ft, deperately in need of more insulation) house FEELS better, and it is cheaper too!
