You still think soccer is not a dangerous sport? Check this video

It is from last night's English Premier League game between Manchester City and Portsmouth.

The poor guy later suffered a seizure en route to hospital. And guess what? The offender didn't get sent off :puke:

1. He may still be charged
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/5281686.stm

The Football Association has confirmed it is investigating Manchester City defender Ben Thatcher's challenge on Portsmouth's Pedro Mendes.

Thatcher received a yellow card for his challenge which left Mendes needing oxygen at the pitchside.

Mendes later suffered a seizure en route to hospital.

An FA spokesman told BBC Sport: "We're looking at whether this may be viewed as an exceptional case as rules make it difficult to upgrade a yellow card."

Thatcher appeared to catch Mendes with his forearm, sending the Portuguese midfielder into advertising hoardings.

4. I think the fucker should be banned for life
He has a previous history of similar tackels. There is nothing sporty about it. This is a murder attempt. Ban his ass for life!!!

7. Oh, really??!!
Thanks for posting that. It makes the entire thing that much more sickening. And as for my proposal for a year of hard work and substinence level living... may as well make it one year for every other comparable offense throughout his career.

I can't believe what a pissy mood I'm in today.

2. The Hamurabi Code has a place here....
I think every player on the team of the guy who got ganked should have one good swing on the arms, back or legs, on that guy with a large blunt object. If that poor guy would have slammed, HEAD-FIRST, into the wall with that asshole on top of him even a little harder, I suspect he'd be a quadriplegic now.

6. I didn't notice the elbow part as much as the impact with the wall
Just looking at the assault as a whole royally pissed me off. That player has no place on any kind of professional sports team. And, for the record, neither do the ball players here in the US who are found guilty of spouse abuse, assault or other violent crime.

Now that I've thought about it for another few minutes, I think that the player who did that tackle should ALSO be suspended from the league for at least a full season and have to perform 2,000 hours of community service with only a bare-minimum amount of monetary compensation. Maybe then something about sportsmanship and human decency would sink the fuck in.

8. It was sick,,
Check out the second camera angel footage, it was an elbow or forearm shot to the neck-head.. I would assume the walls were cushioned, But you know what happens when you assume.

11. It would seem that Tatch might be having his collar felt

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they will investigate Ben Thatcher's challenge on Pedro Mendes during Wednesday night's Premiership match between Manchester City and Portsmouth at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Football Association officials are looking at their own regulations for punishing players to see if further action can be taken against Thatcher.

The Manchester City full-back crashed into the Portuguese midfielder in the second half of the goalless draw at Eastlands. The Portsmouth player was knocked unconscious and spent the night in hospital.

"We are looking at whether this may possibly be an exceptional case and what options may exist under our disciplinary regulations," an FA spokesman said.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed Thatcher could also be interviewed by police if Mendes decides to pursue the matter with a formal complaint.

13. I think they'd have a good case
It looks like a deliberately thrown punch to me, as he went into him as full pace - which was enough to mean he fell without being able to protect his head with his hands, as you would instinctively do, so he crashed head first into the boards. Since it was an incident on the ball, the ref ought to have seen it.

10. Not the worst I've seen
Pretty awful challenge but it's far from the worst I've seen in the Premiership

It also helps when you have Tory MP Boris Johnson setting an example (from a charity game).

This is the worst I've seen and it did wreck Alfie-Ingle Haaland's career.
