Rush Limbaugh handicaps the new "Survivor"

If you don't know (or care) the next season of CBS's Survivor will have the tribes seperated by race and then they will compete. White, Black, Latino, and Asian ....Rush decides to offer his worldly observations.

During the program, Limbaugh suggested that "people at CBS" are "scratch their heads" and asking whether "the swimming portion" of the new Survivor competition is "going to be fair." When pressed by an African-American caller to identify "hich team ... would be the worst swimmers and why," Limbaugh stated that "the white tribe would be the best swimmers" based on the performance of white athletes at "the Olympics." After apparently disconnecting or cutting the volume level of the caller, Limbaugh said: "ou're saying I'm being racist because I'm saying blacks can't swim." He further protested: "I mentioned the swimming comment only because it's not going to be fair if there is a lot of water competition in this. It just isn't. It is not a racial or racist comment at all."

In support of his assertion that his comments were "not ... racist," Limbaugh cited a March 2 HealthDay article reporting that "young blacks -- especially males -- are much more likely to drown in pools than whites." But the study on which the HealthDay article was based did not address the swimming abilities of African-Americans in general. HealthDay reported that "esearchers don't know why black kids are at higher risk of drowning," that "ost of the black victims ... drowned in public pools," and that "he study didn't examine whether the victims had taken swimming lessons or whether the pools were supervised by lifeguards." Additionally, the article noted that according to the study, "people from poorer families were more likely to drown" -- "regardless of race," and that one author of the study suggested "uture research" will be done to "examine whether swimming instruction reduces the risk of drowning."

Regarding the new Survivor series, Limbaugh also stated that there "are many characteristics ... that you would think would give the lead, and the heads up in terms of skill and athleticism and so forth." He also stated that "our early money" is on "the Hispanic tribe" -- which he said could include "a Cuban," "a Nicaraguan," or "a Mexican or two" -- provided they don't "start fighting for supremacy amongst themselves." Limbaugh added that Hispanics have "probably shown the most survival tactics," that they "have shown a remarkable ability to cross borders" and that they can "do it without water for a long time, they don't get apprehended, and they will do things other people won't do."

Limbaugh also asserted that "the Asian-American tribe" -- whom he called "the brainiacs of the bunch" -- "probably will outsmart everybody," but while "intelligence is one thing ... raw, native understanding of the land -- this is probably why the Native Americans were excluded, because they were at one with the land and they would probably have an unfair advantage."

He added that "the white tribe," "if it behaves as it historically has," will "bring along vials of diseases" and "will wind up oppressing" the other tribes by "deny them benefits" and "property," but will later "try to put on some kind of benefit program." He further asserted that if CBS "allows ... cheating" and "oppression," "then of course the white tribe is going to win."

2. Heard the first part of that
not the last part.

I will say the new Survivor strikes me as bafflingly insane.

4. Trough-feeding Nazi pig...
:wtf: This is really how Survivor will be set up next season? The very concept is offensive. And shame on the participants for taking part in such bullshit.

15. Exactly
The only ones who need an ass-kicking over this more than the people who came up with the idea, are the people participating.

5. Rush has become a parody of himself...
right along with Billy O.

This thing is going to end up taking out more than a few broadcasters who can't or won't learn keep their big traps shut.

Come to thik of it, maybe this whole "Survivor" thing is a vast left-wing conspiracy on the part of CBS to call out the racists in the media.

6. Oxy-Rush would never make it as a Castaway.

No servants to cater to him, no air conditioning, and no drugs to keep him going. And the others would want to kill him for eating all their food.

7. I'll bet this show never airs. It's so disgusting they'll pull it because
of the outrage. Just what we need, more race baiting.

8. OMG...I would not have believed this if you hadn't posted the link...

...wouldn't have believed a major network TV show with such a premise really existed, and wouldn't have believed Rush Limbaugh would have been so brazen about "handicapping" it.

The excuse is he's making some kind of satirical joke, doing a Howard Stern type riff making fun of what the network is doing, but then he goes on to self-righteously cite studies to "back up" what were supposed to be his merely jesting contentions.

Incredible. Really, incredible. I guess I don't watch enough of this kind of TV or listen to this kind of radio because I am truly amazed, here. WOW.

9. Here's one for Mr. Limpballs -- "SURVIVOR: FAIRNESS DOCTRINE"
Get he and Michael Savage and Sean Hannity and Laura Ingram and Howie Kurtz and the rest of their sorry lot in a fast and furious competition to see who can complete their entire broadcast while relying only on facts. They'd eat their own. I predict there'd be NO survivors! Make that, I HOPE there'd be no survivors.

11. Jackass's will be jackass's
No matter what is on TV. I just don't get the big deal about the premise of the show. "But this will be just another excuse for racists to be racist", will be an answer. Like I said, a jackass is a jackass. So they force people on the show into groups. They do that already, even if everyone in the group was different. What's different about this and sex or violence on TV? I always hear how the Christian TV groups are crazy for wanting to take this or that off. If CBS wants to do it, why stop them? Hell, if anything, it may show how much different groups of people actually have in common. And within those groups, individuals will have varying strengths and weakenesses. Most of all, it's just a damn TV show. It won't bring racism back, since it never left. A jackass will be a jackass no matter what.

The bloated gas-bag has finally gone right round the fucking twist, he has.

I half-expected him to say that the black tribe would dominate in the dancing, boxing, and hoops competitions.

Actually, I think he was trying to be "satirical" and he just couldn't pull it off because satire requires a certain level of intelligence.

Oh, and do you know where they should set Survivor? Northern Canada in October.

18. New "Odyssey" to unite tribes by Spirit + common interest
a common interest in a liveable planet Earth with clean air and water for ourselves and our children, and the plants and animals...

And this Odyssey is real, not some phony made-up bunch of TV hooey.

Odyssey of the 8th Fire is the true tale
of an epic pilgrimage across North America
by people of all colors and faiths.

We walked for the Earth,
listening to the wisdom keepers,
looking to the whirling rainbow.

The saga of the 8th Fire odyssey will unfold on this web site
day by day until February, 2007.

http://www.8thfire.net /

Of note, this Odyssey was guided by the Red tribes -- the only group Survivor found it convenient to ignore...

19. Is there any doubt in anybody's mind that Rush is a racist/
Remember his short stint on ESPN NFL Primetime where he raised the issue about Donavan Mc Nabb being given special props for being a "black" quarterback? He didnt waste any time doing that, just like his comments in Survivor.
He'll push tha agenda wherever he goes.

20. Some people may really dislike me for this, but........
his comments about swimming are not that far off. I mean, I'm not saying that all black people can't swim because that is totally freakin' ridiculous. BUT, many, if not most, black people that I know cannot (or could not) swim. I have actually taught a few of my co-workers and friends over the years because we go to the lake together, etc. I won't allow anyone to spend the day on my boat unless they at least know swimming basics - holding breath under water, floating, etc. We've actually joked that if one of us won the Powerball Lottery that we would open a line of urban aquatic centers!

Having said all that, the rest of his comments are obnoxious and atrocious as usual. I have no doubt that Rush is a racist.
