Tom Oliphant will sub for Franken next week?
Just heard on Franken's program. I guess next week, Mon-Wed, Oliphant and Christy Harvey will be filling in for Big Al.

This ought to be interesting. I really like Tom. He is as much of a political geek as there ever was. Soft-spoken and sharp as a tack. A favorite hour on talk radio for me is his weekly visit with Al on Thursdays.

1. I really enjoy when Tom is on the show too.

He is such a gentleman.

On edit--It will be so refreshing to have a week when we don't have to listen to Al eat and chew/slurp his food while on the air. :toast:

2. Al has a great two-fer, Oliphant on Thursdays
with Joe Conason on Friday's. A great one-two punch. Different styles but both brilliant.

3. I look forward to the male-female co-host format
..which we originally had on both "The Al Franken Show" and "The Majority Report."

7. So they will be on together, instead of taking turns subbing?
Good!

5. I adore Oliphant -- love it when he's on NewsHour as well
Will DEFINITELY tune in next week. I'm not a huge Franken fan and I always love it when there's a good substitute (EXCELLENT sub in this case). I don't usually listen to Ed, but I'll give Christy a listen too (I enjoy her appearances on Franken and she's obviously looking to branch out).

9. Note: Apparently Christy will be Tom's cohost.

So, you'll be able to hear them both at the same time.

Ought to be very interesting. Oliphant has an encyclopedic memory.
I'm not too sure about Christy, but her segments are pretty good.
This pairing might be a magical moment, or it could be a train wreck.

10. Al is pretty damned good on Thursday and Friday.
Oliphant on Thursday; Conason on Friday. Both are excellent.

I just love Oliphant's laugh. He really comes across on the radio well.
Conason is a real gem.

Franken really needs somebody to help focus. Both Tom and Joe accomplish that very well.

21. And I listen to talk radio for the CALLERS!
If Franken doesn't feel he has the ability to interact with his listeners, then maybe he ought to not be doing a RADIO show! I'll be glad when he has to concentrate on his Senate campaign and abandons the anchor chair. Maybe then the local LA AAR station will air ... SAM SEDER ... from 9 to noon!

12. Does Al have a CLUE how to make a radio show entertaining?
Tom Oliphant is a very intelligent man, and I'm sure he's a nice guy, but he's just boring as HELL on the radio. Al's show is bad enough as it is, but on Thursday I have to double the caffeine just to make it through. Nothing against the guy, but that's just how it is.

I don't see how this guy is gonna carry the show for 3 days on his own :boring:

Thank God Malloy will be in for Randi to wake everybody up!

13. Funny, because I can't stand the shouting and wildness in
Rhodes and Malloy's shows.

Just different preferences I guess. I can listen to Franken's show at work and feel like he's been informative and thoughtful, just as most of his guests are.

The second Rhandi Rhodes comes on, I have to turn the radio off because, although I have nothing against her personally, her style just grates on me.

18. Don't forget that he'll have Christy Harvey as cohost.
She'll keep things moving along, I hope.

Frankly, I am looking forward to this. It could prove to be very interesting and informative.

I love Malloy in the evenings. I listen to Randi occasionally, but she overtalks her guests and callers so much that I end up turning her off.

The thing about AAR is that there is a diversity of styles and viewpoints. It would be sad if AAR was filled with fire-breathers like Malloy and Rhodes.

Try out Ring of Fire some weekend. Bobby Kennedy and Mike Papintonio run a very tight show. I listen every weekend, or Podcast it.
