Poll question: I'm taking a 17-hour international flight. On September 11. From NYC.
Am I crazy or what? My only other alternative is September 13th...which isn't much consolation if I'm going to be worried about superstition. Which I'm not. After all, what could go wrong? That date, 9/11, has been "pre-disastered," at least according to the wisdom of Garp. I'm playing it calm when friends look at me as if I'm insane when I say I'm flying out of NYC on 9/11, but I have to admit...I'm a wee bit apprehensive.

So...what would you do?

3. That's what I was thinking.
I'll probably have more air marshalls on my flight than paying passengers!

6. Exactly!
I wouldnt worry about the date at all.

And I'm not the bravest person either.

So, just go, and have a great time!

4. Be careful what you read and do on that flight. I'd be more worried about
the passengers being a bunch of nervous nellies than about anything of a terrorist nature.

10. The biggest threat would be a claustrophobic who has
been swallowing too much kool aid.

5. I am sure there will be extra security that day in particular.
I work downtown at One World Financial every day and I have no fears or qualms. Have a fun trip.

Thailand. Actually, the flip-side of that same flight the creapo Karr just took back to the states. The plus side is, I hear Thai Air is super-nice!

I just feel sorry for you flying for 17 hours!!

Wait a minute, Sept. 11 does mean something to me. It was the great Tom Landry's birthday.

14. You'll be fine, but I'd allow yourself extra check-in time
I'd imagine - whether or not there's political ramping up of the threat level - security is going to be a little more cautious & jumpy.

Have a great trip! Bangkok is awesome, although I was never really old enough (16, with parents) to appreciate all it had to offer when I visited.

15. Take the plane
And be thankful you don't have to watch all the 5th year anniversary hype (and LIE reinforcement bullshit) that the whore media is sure to shove down the throats of anyone watching.

16. i flew United to NYC on 9/11/02
and it was a gloriously empty plane. return flight several days later was also gloriously empty. three seats all to myself, great service, nice and quiet (not jam packed with travelers and kids). it was a nice treat since every single flight i've taken thereafter has been completely packed. and good luck trying to get a coast to coast non-stop on AA or UA on a decent size plane any more.

i highly recommend flying around that time period.

Might be a good idea lest you spend your trip in Gitmo.
