Why do so many people follow such an obviously incompetent leader? They appear to be semi-intelligent. So why would they follow a person that they know has never been right about anything in his entire life? They know he is good at "bullshitting" but that is about all. Yet, they follow him to war. They say nothing as he lies about one thing after another. They know he has made our country more unsafe. Yet they do nothing. They see his incompetence and they keep marching in lockstep. It's a puzzle to me...

2. It has to do with that authoritarian mindset John Dean talks about ... |
|
I've just started reading his book ... I think he's saying people with this mindset will follow their leader, their authority, over a cliff - they give up their autonomy and follow almost mindlessly. The book is Conservatives without Conscience.

...like we have said everything that can be said. Our only hope is that we have connected or can connect with people and hopefully save our country from the disastroous path we are going down...

I talked to a friend today that I had not seen in about six weeks. During this time she got cable TV and found Faux. She sounded as if she had been invaded by a monster. She proceeded to tell me how Democrats will raise taxes, The economy is wonderful, all the typical crazy talking points. We had talked current events before and she & I thought alike. Complained about health care, the war, but really never put party labels on who was at fault, I didn't think it was necessary. I now know that if a person has not been politically active they do not know the history of what each side stands for. She had never voted in her life and knew practically nothing about government. Therefore the Faux creeps & the radio idiots are able to brainwash them into thinking that everything bad comes from Democrats. The Republicans are experts at brainwashing, it seems to work on the "needy" in society. She had just gone through a very bad time and was looking for someone to blame. I think people follow them because they are weak minded, have the need to feel Superior probably just like those who followed Hitler. It is so very sad, I felt sick all day.

I thought the same thing "Hitler" I watched a documentary about this young German woman, who adored Hitler. When the camps were liberated, she got to tour one of them, she saw the atrocity and was aghast. What did she think was going on in those camps?
Once things are so run down in this country, they will be walking around, asking how did this happen.

someone saying he's not that bad or he's better then gore. I always like to ask them one question, "tell me one good thing Bush has done in the last 6 years...just one thing and i will never ever again say a bad word."
that usually shuts them up and also makes me die alittle inside.

As a lefty female in a male dominated tech industry after 10 years in the military. My observation is that the macho self-image is really tough to break through. Reagan ushered in a myth of rugged, self-reliant, manliness that took hold in the American psyche. I really believe that the only way to undercut that is to constantly stress how weak the neo-cons really are. How they are a bunch of draft-dodging, silver spooned, pantywaists. How none of them have ever worked an honest day in their lives. Rinse and repeat.
