Patti Davis: Why we should never forget Katrina
"A government that is supposed to be of the people, by the people and for the people simply didn’t care about thousands and thousands of mostly poor, mostly black people."

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14499307/site/newsweek/

She pulls no punches these days!

3. A huge failure indeed, and everyone needs to be reminded
I know when race is mentioned, it sounds even worse, but IMO we need to emphasize this was a case of classism. The majority affected were black, but many were white, their common denominator, almost all were poor. When race becomes a focal point, we leave out many of the victims, and I believe people need to be reminded that the governments failure, was a class failure, which clearly shows who the repugs are there for, and who they care about and who they don't. When the repug government fails it's poor people before, during and after an event like katrina, when all the resources of the government could have been used with no objections from anyone, they failed. This clearly shows their heart, they will never do anything for the benefit of the poor, they only care about the wealthy citizens of this country, and the big corps, and too hell with the rest.

8. I live here
and I'm white and there were a bunch of us hit just as hard by Katrina as black folks were. It's a hard time for most of us with the anniversary just days away. I feel for all of the people down here who still have no home, no job or at least one worth anything and are either living in FEMA trailers or stuffed into the homes of their families that are over-crowded. Katrina smashed the homes of blacks, whites, Asians, Mexicans, you name the ethnicity and you'll find a smashed or flooded or smashed and flooded home. Katrina didn't care if you were rich or poor or somewhere in between.

6. Great stuff - thanks for bringing it to our attention
We need to remember that even though a heartless administration is in power, the hearts of Americans are bigger and more persistent. We saw that in the aftermath of Katrina. The government just couldn’t seem to get to New Orleans, but ordinary citizens had no problem rushing in to help.

She is right on the money.

7. thanks for posting this
It's extremely doubtful if the bush twins could ever write this well, with such an important, compassionate, and heartfelt message.
