An amazing photo of a bottle of water
<http://brainshrub.com/bottled-water-bush>

Submitted by Paul -V- on Mon, 08/21/2006 - 1:14pm.
A friend from New Orleans just told me about one of the most creative actions I've heard about in a long time.

In order to remind the White House of its dismal failure during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, activists are asking patriotic Americans to send a single bottle of drinking water to:

President George Bush at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500.

The return address should be addressed as follows: Ernest N. Morial Convention Center 900 Convention Center Boulevard New Orleans, LA 70130

This action has everything: It's simple, creative, witty, media-friendly and difficult to ignore.

Well? What are you waiting for? Send a bottle!

ON EDIT: (08/22/2006 @ 14:00 EST) I just mailed my bottle of water, the picture above was taken at the post office here in Asheville, NC.

The postal worker accepted the package, and it's on its way to the White House as I write this.

Now it's your turn. Mail a bottle, and, if you'd like, email me the addressed picture of YOUR bottle to the President so I can post it here.

Send to: brainshrub -at- gmail.com

1. Why pay the postage when an empty bottle
tells the story better and costs little to mail. There was a lack of drinking water in NOLA.

I don't think the PO is supposed to accept liquids.

Good idea and even better if you're from a state where there's no deposit.

2. Yes, THAT'S a much better idea...
...and with all this talk of explosive liquids lately, the empty bottles would have much less of an excuse to not get delivered.

6. And put a message in it...
Just a castaway, an island lost at sea, oh
Another lonely day, with no one here but me, oh
More loneliness than any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair, oh

I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah

3. I'm real surprised the P.O. accepted the bottle like that;
they're always complaining about how stuff is packaged here.
Great idea!

5. I've mailed empty ones.
The postage here for empty (squished) bottle in brown envelope is 63 cents.
I've had friends who have mailed boxes.
All have been accepted.
One friend sent full bottles of water and wrote "liquid" on the outside.
My favorite:
The friend who sent empty bottles of "Smart" water!

7. I meant just a bottle with a label, which is my preferred choice;
I'm off to the p.o. today; an empty bottle will be sent in an envelope.

via ground services.

11. Probably because in St. Bernard there is still NO water!
Well, actually, probably because he likes the President.

18. It's not required that you package the bottle of water. You can simply put
your address, return address and stamps on it and send it as it is.

I used to have a contest with a friend to see who could send the strangest things through the mail in their original states.

I sent a loaf of Latvian bread in it's store wrapper.. a huge dog bone, a bagel... all with just labels for the addresses on them.

Good clean fun with the US postal service.
