When you think about it - it's all the republicans have left
Ask anyone which party stands for fiscal responsibility, smaller government, moral values, tax cuts and defense - the answer would normally be "Gee, it's the republicans."

But when you think about it..... Since January 2001 deficits have risen to record levels, the size and imposition of government has increased, given the multitude of scandals the soapbox of moral values has collapsed, and tax cuts? Well not many of us have seen any significant benefit from the wealthy-fare tax cuts.

Regarding Defense - not much there either. We have two wars going on - one in Iraq and the forgotten one in Afghanistan, and a probable 3rd or 4th in Iran/Syria (with North Korea making noises). Our military is stretched thin, and the prospect of a draft looms larger each day. Our borders and ports of entry are not secure, yet we must dump our shampoo and hand lotion into bins at the airports. Precious little has been done to address the recommendations by the 9-11 commission.

so when you think about it - the only thing the republicans have left is fear.

5. Yep, fear is the platform, and is a good way to explain it.

2. This is absolutely correct. The fear card is the only one left in the deck
Edited on Fri Aug-25-06 07:31 AM by AndyA
for the Republicans. They've played the integrity card. After the Abramoff scandal, the outing of Plame, Cunningham, Frist, DeLay, and all the others still to be investigated, that one's a dead issue.

The smaller government card went out the window almost immediately.

The fiscal responsibility card followed the smaller government card in rapid succession.

The protecting America card got played early on, Bush was too busy vacationing to notice the danger, so out with that one!

The honesty and values cards somehow got stuck to the integrity card, and flew off with it.

The deck is pretty thin right now, and the terra and fear cards are all they have left to play. They have no credibility, they have no plan, they have nothing. So the terra and fear cards are going to be played regularly, and repeatedly. We're not supposed to notice they're playing the same cards over and over again.

And it's taken awhile, but America is beginning to notice. Even some of the Kool Aid drinkers have begun to notice, a miracle in itself. The days of the Bush Gestapo and Republican Regime are coming to an end. What we are seeing are the last dying gasps of a pathetic attempt to manipulate and control.

But the manipulate and control cards are laying on the table, face up, for all to see. So there's no secret there, no surprise. The GOP no longer has the upper hand.
