Fox News' question about Bush was "dumb," says media critic
http://www.poynter.org/column.asp?id=45&aid=106493

Chicago Reader
Fox News recently asked 900 registered voters: "Would you say you want President Bush to succeed or not?" Michael Miner says the question is "so open-ended and volatile that a shrewd moderator could use it to light up a political focus group. But as a yes-no question inserted into a national public opinion poll, it strikes me as, well, not useful."

How would you answer the question? I would say that generally I want him to fail because his objectives mostly deserve failure. And this is actually why he is failing, whether anyone "wants" him to or not.

1. I'd answer NO
I don't want him to succeed, becuase I don't think his goals are the same as what the American people think they are. Many people might equate Bush failing with America failing, but I don't think they're the same thing.

I want America to succeed, and the only way that can happen is if Bush fails.

that I want him to succeed or not? He has aready put the rope around his neck the question is do I want him to jump off the chair?

5. That's the whole question?
"Would you say you want President Bush to succeed or not?"

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Succeed... at what?

8. And succeed...by whose standards?
By his own standards, Bush has already succeeded. He came into office with two objectives: slash taxes for the rich and invade Iraq.

Check, check.

10. Of course I want fascism to fail
And that should be the answer to every one of these bonehead bloggers. Read the entire article and see exactly how they're claiming that we want Osama to win.

12. I actually think it's a good question
The fact that it's asked by Fox News is problematic (audience bias) but the basic point is: "Are Bush's goals in alignment with yours?"

For me, the answer is no. I want him opposed at every opportunity, because even the good things he might promote are only delivery mechanisms for an unlimited variety of poison pills.
