Vstore.com shutting down
Not a big surprise -- they've always gotten horrible reviews, from both "Vtailers" and customers alike. In any case, they offer no explanation, but:
August 23, 2006

Dear Vtailer:

Please be advised that effective Monday, August 28, 2006, Vstore will cease accepting new orders.

We will continue to service those orders accepted prior to August 28, 2006 for a period of thirty
(30) days, or until midnight September 27, 2006 in accordance to the Terms and Conditions you agreed to
when building your Storefront. You will be able to access reports during this period and should you
require this information after September 20, 2006 a copy should be printed. Any orders not completed by
midnight September 27, 2006 will be canceled.

All outstanding commissions payable under the Terms of the Agreement will be paid on or before
October 26, 2006.

We at Vstore wish you every success in your future ecommerce entrepreneurial endeavors.

Sincerely,

Vstore

2. Basically...
...a dot-com that would give you your own oneline storefront to sell whatever they were pushing -- everything from Playstations to nutritional supplements. IOW, your "custom" site would be just one of a million different "fronts" for their business. Pretty scammy and scummy, if you ask me, but a few people who got in early (before there were gazillions of similar fronts out there) made some sweet cash.

3. Reminds me of all the dot com start ups that shut down
early on.

4. Yeah, actually, I'm surprised they lasted this long.
I guess the business model really did work, for a while; in its early days, Vstore was held up as an exemplar (in books, etc.) of how the 'Net really could be used to make money.

Buh-bye to one of the last "cookie cutter" sites!
