There were 100 dozen roses for Helen Thomas...
...should there not be some for Judge Anna Diggs Taylor as well? :patriot:
How would we go about setting it up?
Can't kick in much, and it would have to be by mail...but I'd be PROUD to do so. :loveya:

4. You can gift anyone you want
the question is is it OK for the person in public office to accept the gift. In most cases it is not.

2. I Don't Think That's Appropriate Whatsoever.
I've made it known, however, that I do not think we should ever agressively engage in making politics out of the judiciary. She made a good decision based on constitutional law and objectivity as her job requires. It had nothing to do with left or right. But more than that, praising her to such degrees undermines the legal system in my opinion since it seems to send a message that we do not expect judges to uphold the law anymore. But I think that's far from the truth. In reality, the overwhelming majority of judges do a fine job upholding the law appropriately. Therefore, I think ones that don't should be chastised but those that do need not be rewarded. Only when a sound legal decision becomes such rarity should we then offer such praise when one comes through.

7. Bad idea
If she is half the judge we think she is, she would (and should) be highly insulted and she would be quite clear that we did not get it. She does not need to be bribed or outrageously rewarded for doing her job accurately and well.

Furthermore, it would give ammunition to the right wing extremist scum who are looking for any excuse to invalidate and condemn her decisions, further complicating the issue.

My opinion and worth the paper it's written on

9. No, she was just doing her job
Judges are not supposed to be either good guys or bad guys. They are most especially not supposed to be pleasing a constituency. She wouldn't want flowers. What she'd like, no doubt, is to see her decision upheld.

10. Sorry 'bout that then...didn't think it through.
Honestly, it HAS gotten to the point where I'm so surprised when a judge actually DOES his or her job rather than pandering to special interests that I want to show my appreciation!

Forgot there's some things that one does NOT do when the person you are appreciating IS a judge. My bad.
:dunce:

But I still think she's great.

11. we could donate money to the ACLU
to show we appreciate their battle to keep this a free country, esp. as one of GOP's arguments
was that an organization that she was affiliated was associated with THEM so her opinion was
biased. Good old Joe McCarthy could not of thought of a better smear. Since they are so fond
of 9-11 as an excuse for wiretaps, why don't we donate 9.11 each to the ACLU for keeping our freedom.

17. Excellent idea, MissWaverly!
The ACLU always needs donations, it's for a good cause, and it is something that shouldn't cause any problems. Very, very good solution.

18. When, I went to donate, they said tell your friends about us
So here goes:

Over the last four years, we have seen an unrelenting assault on our civil liberties and the very values that define our democracy. Even as his presidency falters, George Bush and his administration have not backed down from their reactionary agenda. But the American people are making their voices heard as more and more people question the direction our country is taking. Now is the time to redouble our efforts to protect rights like freedom of speech, religious liberty, due process and the right to privacy.

The ACLU is standing strong in defense of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. To find out how you can get involved go to:

14. As much as I would live to give her roses, we shouldn't
put her in that position....she must not, under any circumstances, be seen as partisan. Her opinions are not partisan, so she shouldn't accept partisan gifts.

In my mind, I am sending her roses!
