As Vise Tightens on Bush/NeoCons, We Are All In Great Danger....
IF the general trend holds for the next 60 days through the midterm elections, Democrats will take over a majority of the House, possibly the Senate, and the investigations will begin in earnest using the power of the Congressional subpoena to root out the evidence of corruption secreted over the last 6 years.

That means no control of the House and Senate agenda. No more tax cuts for the wealthiest 1% and corporations. No more public treasury giveaways to the oil and gas, banking, pharmaceutical lobbies, and the mercenary corporations like Halliburton.

IN other words, Bush will wake up to the world opposition and scandal investigation every single day. And as the investigations move forward, people will be shocked and outraged at what has been done on Bush's watch. Impeachment proceedings will surely follow.

And there goes the NeoCon power to direct our military as if it were their private domain to bully and attack other countries in their attempt to conquer the Middle East and take over their oil.

So the stakes could not be higher as the midterm elections approach. THis will be an election which is really a referendum on the Iraq war and a change in leadership and direction of this country.

As Tony Blair is kicked out of office by his own party, and other countries leave us in Iraq betwixt warring sectarian factions that all hate the US more than each other, a failing economy and housing industry, plummeting dollar value, and abandonment by the religous right, Bush and Company will become desperate.

Anything that could trigger a bigger wider armed conflict might rally some Americans behind their president, so the danger is that Bush and Company may make it happen BEFORE the midterm elections.
That is the great danger facing us. That we might be plunged into conflict at home and abroad which will not only damage our nation, but put us on a path of destruction which cannot easily be changed.

Vigilance and courage will be needed to get us through this dark period in our nation's history. May we have the strength as a people to unite and rediscover what it means to be a free democratic people who are willing to fight to save ourselves and our way of life.

While success is uncertain, failure is guaranteed if we do not fight back.

2. I fear you are correct
how do you propose we fight back further than our GOTV and speaking truth to our neighbors?

7. Try forwarding this thread to your Congresscritter
or local government official. There's going to be a lot of campaigning in the next few months.
Getting the candidates to talk about this at the public meetings on the public record will be essential. If you know any potentially sympathetic active duty or retired military, tell them about it. Support sane politicians of either party, or no party, such as Chuck Hagel and Dennis Kucinich, and Ralph Nader. Make sure the media knows the reasons for that support. Take over 9-1-1 day as our day, a day of a distress call, and not allow the expected neocon/Bush Nuremberger festival torchlight fascist publicity orgy.

12. "Fight Back" should include the following ....
Observe and listen to Bush/Rove/Cheney Republicans, and respond immediately to lies and distortions about Democrats. Adopt a war-room mentality. Don't give them the opportunity to define us and what we will do if Dems regain control. Be vigilant in pointing out the problems all around us and make sure people realize they have a clear choice between them and us.

It should be 60 days of "going right at them." Attack them for their failure to plan and execute in Iraq, and make sure we always leave the public with the promise that we will not blame a military that was misused and abused by this bunch. The public should know that there is another way to deal with our problems, and we are there with them --not to order them to stay the course of failed policymaking.

It takes effort. Thinking and planning. It takes courage to provide the clear choice.

If we do it, the people will be with us. Things are going to get worse before they get better, and I think people are sensing it before they go to the polls to vote.

17. Bravo! I watched the Kirsten Powers/Coultergeist stoush the other day...

... and with 20-20 hindsight I thought, 'Kirsten, you should have asked out loud whether (m)Anne was cutting and running' from your question. (Not that anyone could stay semi-mean at Kirsten for too long.)

Let's turn the purile tactics of the right-wing-freak-show against them. By this I mean, let's use their terminology against them! Show them up for the hypocritters that they are.

5. I agree...we have no idea what they'll do
I've been saying for a while that Camp Casey needs to be very alert and very cautious...it seems like a good target for the fascists to release their hate. If ever there was a time to defend the second amendment, it is now. We've only had one civil war in this nation's history, but that won't preclude us from having another. And if it comes to that, defeat is not an option.

13. I have been what you guys would call
a major lurker. I have surfed the latest threads on this board for five years +.

Obviously something about you "folks" keeps my interest.

Latest news,

Intelligent dialog,

Fellow travelers floundering in disgust with the course we are on.

As i listen to mike again (I think I missed two nights of his reading of 1984) I post on this board knowing that agent mike is not only reading every word I type, (and I only type about seven words a minute, could be the jack and coke, could be the dropping out of school to join the corps) but that he knows I am also a dangerous american.

I am an american who took an oath, you the one, and I meant it, that makes some of us dangerous to those who take that oath and don't mean it. (or avoid it completely with a festering ass boil)

I am happy to know that people capable of intelligent discourse, such as the vast majority of members I have read post here over the years, are ready to take up the challenge of rebuilding a society after the almost inevitable collapse of this farce of a nation.

Three, four years ago, several posters would comment on how the republicans had set about a long term strategy of overtaking the media and politics of this country starting back in the late seventies after Nixon's demise, and how we needed to work along those lines to counter these subversives. I read this web page more than than five hours a day (addict yes) and I know some work diligently at democratic party causes, voter registration, door to door, campaign work and more. And I know that I am as guilty as most for looking at the diversions like man coulter getting shut down at C&L.But I can't help thinking of the Mark Twain quote about not being a member of any organized political party, I'm a democrat.

Why is that?

Cooperate media.

Don't ask me to post links, this is my fourth post in five years. I can build a putor from mother up but links elude me, (software illiterate).

The whitehouse ignores hundreds of thousands before the war.

The statehouses ignore millions nationwide.

The nations papers are losing circulation and closing daily, as the internets keep picking up readers.

The nations papers do not, as of yet have the jackboots gathering people into "free speech zones".

If the local paper won't allow interviews and print the protesters concerns then protest the distribution points. (oops my colostomy bag spilled on your newsstand)

Rove didn't start in the whitehouse.

Just my two cents, have at it and tear my ideas apart or not, but thats what I love about DU, allot of ideas. Its just starting to feel like we are seriously running out of time here and its been all or nothing for the competition for a long time and playing fair ain't gonna be an option for criminals who stand to lose not only their position but also their freedom from prosecution.

10. I wouldn't be too worried. We won't get our country back with one
election. It's going to be a long hard battle over the non-transparency of election returns that are tabulated by Bushite corporations, using TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code, with virtually no audit/recount controls--a coup arranged by the biggest crooks in the Anthrax Congress, Tom Delay and Bob Ney, with the so-called "Help America Vote Act" ('02). These Bushite corporations (mainly Diebold and ES&S) choose our candidates in the primaries and who wins the elections. My guestimate is that they're putting a 5% to 10% "thumb on the scales" for Bushites, warmongers and corporatists.

All but two of the Senate Democrats, and all but 60 House Dems, voted FOR the Bushite corporate takeover of our election system. Not a peep out of them. They seem to like it this way.

Even now, about half of the Senate and House Democrats vote for war and other really bad ideas. That is not going to change dramatically with one election under continuing non-transparent conditions. If they do hearings and investigations, it will be more along the lines of the Iran-Contra hearings under Reagan. They won't rock the boat much. A few underlings might be in trouble.

I've little doubt that we will see some "Gulf of Tonkin"-type incident before November, to get us into a widened Mideast war. It's all set up--and unstoppable, I think. And the Democrats won't do anything. They'll wave the flag and condemn those bad Iranians for doing whatever (that they probably didn't do at all), and that will be that. If a Democrat is permitted to enter the White House in '09--a possibility--it will be a War Democrat, and he/she will start telling us about "staying the course" and "succeeding" in Iran.

So I don't think Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld & Co. have all that much to worry about.

Long term, when we are able to restore transparent elections, we will start being to able to elect better representatives, and we will start being able to change things, but it's going to take time.

Have faith in our democracy, and in our people. We WILL get our country back.

A good plan for this year is massive Absentee Ballot voting. FLOOD election officials with MOUNTAINS of paper AB votes, create panic and crisis in the election theft industry, and FORCE these corrupt election officials to the table. DON'T VOTE ON THEIR MACHINES! Boycott the machines! AB votes are NOT "safe"--and will NOT produce accurate vote counts this fall--but if enough people vote AB (and many are--it's up to 50% in Los Angeles), we CAN force change at the local/state level, where decisions about voting systems are still made, and where ordinary people still have some influence.

Bust the Machines--Vote Absentee!

14. Don't hold your breath waiting for the "investigations".
If History is an example, The Democratic Party Establishment will close ranks with the Republican party Establishment to protect the system. There may be a few minimal whitewashes with alot of stern posturing and video bytes for the TV Cameras, but NOBODY will be found GUILTY of ANYTHING. The REPUBLICAN CRIMINALS will WALK, and they will be able to join OJ on the Golf Courses with their stolen BILLIONS intact!

This (or something very close) is what you will hear from the Democratic Party, parroted over and over on the Talking Head Pundit shows:

<Cue the PIOUS voice and affect>
"Now is not the time to dwell in the past. This is a critical time in History, and we must devote all our efforts to the Crisis at Hand. Work with us now as we bravely march into the Future!"

You will hear this continuously until you puke as the CRIMINALS walk free with YOUR stolen money while the murdered children rot in their graves!
