Anyone following the Pat Buchanan garbage?
There is this from Media Matters:

Buchanan likened illegal immigrants to "Goths" who ravaged ancient Rome, foreshadowing "how America ends"

http://mediamatters.org/items/200608250009

And from MSNBC:

Pat Buchanan: Mexico recapturing U.S. lands?

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/14454132/

The racism expressed against those of non-European ancestry by Pat Buchanan to me seems quite clear.

Interesting to note these opinions in the context of his position vis-a-vis the recent events in Lebanon.

Wow, you can't even trust Batman movies anymore.

Pat's always been a racist. His "We must take back our culture" speech at the 92 Repub convention belonged at a Klan rally.

As I said a while back, racism is chic again. It never went away, but at least until the last couple of years it was supposed to be veiled.

3. Claiming racism won't win you the argument anymore...
It's not about race, it is about economics. We don't have the money, the room, or the jobs, to take care of 100 million Mexicans in poverty over the next 50 years.

6. That's exactly what I was talking about
People aren't ashamed to be racist anymore. They will openly rationalize it.

8. Then it's certainly a good thing that 95% of the population
of Mexico isn't going to move North in that time frame.

14. Economics? By economics do you mean drug trafficking, or, ...
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 02:08 AM by bananarepublican
... money laundering?

Are you perhaps refering to the fact that Afghanistan, under effective US control, is having bumper poppy-crop after bumper poppy-crop. Or, perhaps you may be touching on the fact that Bahgdad is now awash with narcotics (whereas, under Saddam, there was no drug problem)?

So, is the problem that the Mexicans are too poor to buy drugs? Maybe they are coming to America to be able to afford drugs?

With the above, I may have gone off on a bit of a tangent, however, I'm interested in learning a bit more about your thoughts vis-a-vis 'economics'.

10. I wish somebody would remind Pat
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 01:41 AM by Ken Burch
that the rhetoric he uses about "illegals" is the same rhetoric that was used to demonize Irish immigrants(many of whom could probably be considered undocumented since we had no strict immigration controls in the mid-19th century and anyone who didn't get in at New York could probably just catch a boat to Montreal and sneak across from there)who were escaping the Black 47.

Same shite, different feckin' day.

12. He's a Sheeple Herder
Pat sounds like he makes a conservative tinged sense. He makes a convincing appeal to moderate republicans (oxymoron, yes, but I need it here) that they can alter their party's fascist trajectory from inside.
He keeps them from jumping the fence during the campaign . then, on the eve of the election, he always tells his sheeple that they need to vote for the Jack Boot candidate after all.
As far as illegals and Goths go, he may have told some inadvertent truth.
the Visigoths as a nation were fleeing the Huns. They were allowed into the Roman empire in what started as a pretty practical gesture of mercy.
Then the Roman Freepers went to work on them. They were exploited to the hilt, right down to being compelled to trade children into slavery as the price of bread. Mind you this was in an empire where Christianity was the official religion.
Inevitably they decided enough was enough.
