Oliver Stone 9/11 Film Draws Anger from Prominent Black Professor
Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) August 25, 2006 -- Dr. Boyce Watkins, a Finance Professor at Syracuse University and author of "What if
George Bush were a Black Man?" is outraged by the recently released film "World Trade Center", directed by Oliver Stone. The film, focused on events during September 11, 2001, inaccurately portrays two of the key characters as white instead of black. One of them is a major part of the story, former Marine Jason L. Thomas, played by Nicolas Cage. The second is Bruce Reynolds, a New York City Police Officer.

Producer Michael Shamberg has stated that "by the time we discovered he's black we had already been in production for a day and it was too late to do anything about it."

1. Ah HAH! Stone directed this. *NOW* I'll watch it
Dr Watkins must be offended by the lack of early researchers' lapse. Or does Stone have an evil plot to repress the black man further?

2. Musta looked white with all that dust. Either that or Stone proves
even the wacko wing of hollywood is a cabal of racists. I'll bet Michael Moore is, too - has he ever made a movie about a black CEO like he did with the white guy, Roger. PROOF POSITIVE!!

Still, I hear Stone's is a good movie this time.

And, what's the substantative difference here verses changing the race of the firemen raising the flag to reflect a diversity that wasn't present in the actual event/photo?

4. Well,
...of course I know everyone looked more gray than anything else that day with all the ash flying. On the other hand, there WERE the survivors he saved that they could have asked.

Oh, and then there's this: (link) http://cdn.news.aol.com/aolnews_photos/01/02/20060815064809990025 Which was taken on.... oh yeah that's right.... September 11, 2001 and posted by AP.

Gee, you don't think it was the name "Nicolas Cage" who would draw big bucks to the box office that would have influenced their "not knowing,"do you?

What an ass. If you're gonna lie, at least make it credible.

5. The article is screwed up...got the characters mixed up
From the article:
"One of them is a major part of the story, former Marine Jason L. Thomas, played by Nicolas Cage".

Cage played John McLoughlin, the Port Authority officer..not
former Marine Jason L. Thomas. If you go to imbd.com page about the movie, it lists who all was in it. Yahoo needs to pull the article.

And here is a pic of the PA officer:

7. I went to see World Trade Center and thought the film was
Incredibly cheesy and I was astonished that some people in the theater were actually crying....some of the dialogue is totally emabarrassing.

Oliver Stone isn't a particulary good film maker in my opinion, the ONLY Oliver Stone film that I like and rate is 'Nixon' and of course Anthony Hopkins is extraordinary as Richard Nixon....nearly all of Oliver Stone's other films suck.

8. Haven't seen and don't plan on seeing this movie......
Cause 9/11 is not something I need to relive....heroism and all.

My 16 year old daughter put it most plainly ..."after 5 years, why does it seem like 9/11 is everyday?"
