Happy 86th Birthday to Women's Sufferage! |
|
On this day in 1920, all American women were given the right to vote. Two months later women went on to give the presidency to Warren Harding, the most corrupt president in American history (up until now, that is). Good going, ladies, and congratulations!

Edited to add... not sure I understand you putting the slam about giving the presidency to Harding in a post that seems to be congratulating women, but thanks anyway.

If you haven't seen it, rent the DVD "Iron-jawed Angels". It's a decent portrayal of some of the events leading up to this historic vote. :)

Shows that women were not just "given" the right to vote. They fought with their lives for it.

6. And MEN put the GOP into the White House |
|
during most of my adult life. You proud of that one?
My mother's earliest memory was of being in a sufragette parade in NYC with my grandmother and great grandmother, both of whom were tireless workers in securing that most basic right of a US citizen: the vote.
My great grandmother's proudest day was not when she became a citizen. It was when she cast her first vote.
They were Democrats, by the way.

or a Misogynists Group where hatred for women could be expressed without any danger of comment from sane people.

29. "Misandrist" is a false construct of Misogynists |
|
who get cranky when their gender bigotry is pointed out.
Do white school bus drivers need a forum for how misunderstood they are when one makes 9 black students cram onto 2 seats in the "back of the bus" while white students sit alone up front? No. They are in the dominant position. Do African Americans need solidarity to address this outrage? Yes.
TH, your prickliness about sexism is baffling, cuz you seem like a smart guy............... :eyes:

that's about as funny as a white teacher telling his black students that economy was better when we had slaves...just trying to get a rise out of them. HA HA that is so funny. HA HA HA. :eyes:

If women were the only ones voting, Gore would be president now. Conversely, if women had never got the right to vote, the country would be even further right than it is now.

38. I wished that I had asked my paternal grandmother about this. |
|
Being born in 1899, she lived her childhood and young adult years not being able to vote. At the time I didn't think to ask her opinion about Women's sufferage. Unfortunately, she passed away in 1988. She was 89 years old.
