He's a republican, right? |
|
I actually had this conversation a couple of days ago with a workmate, and it has stayed with me.
Her: So. Are you a democrat or a republican?
Me: I'm hugely a democrat. A big democrat. I guess you're probably a republican?
Her: Oh, no. I can't stand what is happening now to this country.
Me: Well, I'm glad to hear it. Did you vote in the primary?
Her: No. I wanted to, but I haven't voted in probably 10 years or more.
Me: Well, you should probably go down and make sure you're registered.
Her: Bush is a republican, right?
Me: Stunned silence.

2. I'm not sure people that "out of it" should be allowed to vote |
|
Its like when Leno walks around and asks people questions like "who is the president" and the person says "I'm not political"... too dumb to vote.

5. That's what I've been rolling around in my head |
|
She's not dumb, but damn. She disagrees with what's been happening in this country, but still has to ask whether or not Bush is a republican? I couldn't believe it, but I swear it's a true conversation.
People need to get more involved.
I have to add that she and my supervisor have extended conversations about the tv show Big Brother. I'm not a part of that since I told them I am probably the only human in america who has never watched a "reality" show.

6. I had a friend who told me she was non political |
|
I encouraged her to watch the Kerry Bush debates- she watched the first one (well, all the other tv shows were off because of the debate and she doesn't have cable). Bush looked like a bumbling idiot, especially in the first debate.
So I asked her who she would vote for and she said Bush. I asked why, couldn't you tell that he really isn't very bright? She said that she heard he was a "born again christian" and that was enough for her. Believe me, I'm sorry I ever brought the subject of voting up.

I haven't, either. Complete waste of technology! So now you can tell them there are two humans in America who have never watched a "reality" show. ;)

No one gives a shit.
Go out to a bar tonight, and try to talk poltics with people. The average person out there is clueless about government.

For every intelligent voter out there it seems like there's a dozen who are clueless and just vote the way they are told.

15. The same thing happened to me in 2000 |
|
A temp at work asked me if she could vote at the YMCA across the street from our office.
"Where do you live?"
"In Cambridge" (over the river and in another district)
"Oh, no. You should vote in the same precinct where you are registered"
"Registered?"
"You haven't registered? Oh well, I suppose it's best that people like you don't vote anyway."
Puzzled look.

16. keep registrations close by, |
|
have them fill them out, seal them and mail em off. I registered about 40 last major election just that way. You don't even have to be political about it. The good news is about 30 did vote, and they all voted for Kerry cause gwb didn't fit the bill.
