My Local NBC Affiliate Cancelled "Book of Daniel"- DU the General Mgr
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 10:18 PM by Southpawkicker
I'm so pissed off right now.

From the website:

KNWA-TV/KFTA-TV, the NBC Affiliates serving Northwest Arkansas and the Fort Smith River Valley announced this morning they will no longer be airing NBC’s “The Book of Daniel”. In making the announcement, Vice President and General Manager, Blake Russell stated, “We continued to monitor the subject matter of the program while receiving concerns from many of our viewers. After viewing the latest episode, and continued passionate feedback from our community, KNWA will no longer carry The Book of Daniel.”

KNWA-TV has received notification from NBC that “The Book of Daniel” will now air on Equity Broadcasting’s KFDF, UPN 10, Cable Channel 4 in Northwest Arkansas Friday night at 9pm in its original time period.

Any comments concerning programming on KNWA-TV/KFTA-TV should be e-mailed to comments@knwa.com or to the address below:

2. If you can afford a good antenna, KJRH Ch. 2 in Tulsa is still carrying it
it's on right this minute.

5. no but
I did find that it is being shown on the local UPN affiliate here.

But I still think that the NBC affiliate is wrong for censoring their shows, when you know it was a freeper/wacko/RWer letter writing frenzy that did this!

Nextar sucks!

8. I think it's wrong too.
As to getting the station-a decent antenna should help out. I live in Warrensburg (45 miles SE of KC) and I can get stations from Omaha, Des Moines, Springfield and I've picked up Fayetteville before. For a few years I couldn't afford cable and lived w/ a used antenna that I picked up for ten bucks.
Truthfully, I've thought about going back to antenna.

7. Another hit by the American "Family" Association
juggernaut. . .and yes, you should tell the station that from now on you view them as nothing more than an extension of Don Wildmon. Since the station manager has decided that programming must be approved as "religiously correct" according to the AFA, you expect to see station symbols developed that will indicate the station's beholden endorsement of the religious beliefs of one segment of the audience.

Then ask him how many protests he received from Episcopals, since the AFA is rather clear that it doesn't like them. And if he intends to examine the content of the station's Sunday morning programming to ensure he doesn't include sermons which vilify other members of the community...like other religions and sexual orientations. Make sure you remind him that as a FREE American, you don't appreciate any church demanding censorship of your choices, particularly at the direction of a national hate organization.

And then make sure you let them know that you'll be one anxious person who will await their license renewal unless he can provide plenty of examples in which representations of others in the region (including gays) are provided. Since part of the AFA complaint is that a practicing homosexual can't possibly be a 'good christian" ask the station manager if that is the position of the station, too. And that you would like it in writing.

9. Wow, I checked the AFA website, and you're right!
AFA is proudly proclaiming in a story that their efforts are shutting down the Book of Daniel and that they hope that it is canceled before it reaches 8 episodes.

They claim they aren't for censorship, but they want their right wing agenda to take over the television industry and programming.

12. Exactly. . .and you should send that little link to the local station
and ask them just how much research they have done on the AFA before making this decision. Put the screws to them.

While you are at it, pull up the Declaration of Rights from the Arkansas state constitution and ask the station what problem they have with the every man can worship God according to his own conscience.

13. what do you bet the 'objectional content' tonight
was the priest telling a gay man that God loved him, and that he wasn't going to hell for being gay? Obviously offensive from a denomination that has a gay bishop.

14. As an Episcopalian, I can tell you that the "Gay Bishop"
is a controversy within the Church as well.

Most of the US Episcopal Churches don't seem to have a problem with it, but the Anglican Communion, which includes Anglican Churches from around the world, has a problem with it and in fact the Episcopal Church isn't invited to the annual meeting (I forget the name of that)

I don't have a problem with it, but more importantly, the state that elected him to be THEIR Bishop didn't have a problem with it. (or the majority didn't)

16. right, I understand that
but from my knowledge of the Episcopal Church, for the most part, US congrgations don't make a habit of demonizing homosexuality. Certainly there are some more conservative ones, but not to the extent that, say, Southern Baptists recently have been damming of gays.

17. Oh Hell No!
Episcopals are night and day different from Southern Baptists.

We are definitely way to the left of them as a religion, with various members and congregations along a spectrum that runs far to the left of the SB's

24. and if the show presented a Southern Baptist preacher
saying it was ok to be gay, then maybe I could see a complaint about it, since it would violate the teachings of that particular church at this time. But since it doesn't appear to violate the current teachings of the Episcopal Church, then I don't have a lot of sympathy for the wingnuts.

...sigh couldn't just have the normal unobtrusive scrolling like for emergencies... It had to be twice the normal size.

23. Yea it's largely mormon, but...
Interestingly enough - where I'm working is becoming, uh, enlightened. :) One of my bosses was born in Turkey and is muslim and shares the same views as I. OMG humanity is a beautiful thing I think. :) I was raised catholic and he was raised muslim and we are both curious as hell about eachothers upbringings and how we can both be raging liberals. Remember these types of moments, because this is what life is all about, and what peace can be.

and none of the City Council are Mormon. It's a schizoid community.

22. Don't bother with that "comments" e-mail
If the fight with Sinclair is any indication, that email address is a black hole.
The people you want to hit with email are:
lkelsey@knwa.com (Sales manager)
brussell1@knwa.com (General Manager)

The best bet is to go after the advertisers and let them know you're upset with the station and will not be doing business with companies that continue advertising there.
