Total (Terror) Information Awareness, John Poindexter, etc...
Edited on Sat Aug-26-06 10:26 PM by TomInTib
Remember all of that hoopla?

They changed the name - 'Total' to 'Terror' - in an attempt to appease the public and, to some degree, Congress.

Remember the 'gait awareness' technology that the Pentagon was developing for them?

John Poindexter is not the sort of guy who just goes away.

And I am willing to bet that his cute little program didn't really go away, either.

Any bets?

1. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has told ISPs
...that he wants them to record every website we visit.

And that if they don't do it voluntarily, he'll seek legislation to mandate it.

My ISP may be recording every website I visit tonight without telling me. Or maybe they will start doing that a year from now without telling me.

We need a privacy law to stop an ISPs from recording information they shouldn't be.

3. I would be surprised if they weren't listening in. I bet they know
everyone here.

I got my FBI file in 1965. When did you get yours?

5. Funny you should ask
I don't know about any FBI files but my wallet was stolen in Chicago a couple of winters back.

No ID, $10, and I was flying to LaGuardia.

I went to TSA at O'Hare and explained what was going on (the only reason I could pull this off is because I am major Platinum with American Airlines). The head of whatever it is entered my name, SSN, and AA# into his computer and I was all over that thing.

9. The right to privacy.
Back in the eighties I was told by a DC lawyer I knew that the main reason the Republicans wanted to overturn Roe Vs Wade was not abortion but the right of privacy that was affirmed by the decision. All that talk about the sanctity of life is total bulls shit. Since then they have found that they can get around it by privatizing the collection of data.

I'd say everything the TSA or any state security apparatus needs can be gathered by private enterprise. Our government may not be spying (invading our privacy) on us, but they are buying data from their corporate friends.

4. I won't bet against you, Tom. Those Contra Gate mofos
are with us still.

Geeze, I had a thread running for a while about how I shop on the net and for a period of a month, every single package came pre-opened. My al qaida towels from Linens n things, you know. Then, it stopped.

I guess the fact that we opened MoveOn's book here didn't go unnoticed. Can you imagine how much money we're paying in to get spied on? For my Al Qaida expressionist prints from Posters . com to be monitored?

:wtf:

6. 'gait awareness' - so they know who you are by how you walk
it's so ridiculous, I bet they're spending billions on it. I guess it would track those with no RFID-enabled cards in their wallets. Total Information Awareness will never go away, they need it. They need total control over us, after all, we're a dangerous bunch - the heirs of real revolutionaries. Turn your TV back on, you sound like you're becoming deprogrammed, and remember to go shopping in the morning.

7. The bowls of the Pentagon, way down and secure from normal people
The Admiral works on his awareness machine.
Must control the people.
Consume, obey, work.
Big Brother.

8. Not only didn't it go away
They'll only improve on it. Improve can be a relative term, but you know what I mean. As long as agencies such as the CIA, NSA, DARPA, and the Pentagon itself exist, these problems won't go away.
