How Democrats shoot themselves in the foot. |
|
There is a poll on the boards about what it would mean if we don't win back congress this year.
I believe we will. If we don't however I don't blame Diebold voting machines or Rove mind control schemes. I blame The National Democratic Party. Why? Cause they do things without even thinking how they play with joe and jane six pack America. (You know the one who goes to Walmart and whose votes we need to win a majority.)
Here is a perfect example.
Most Democrats and almost all Progressives support equal rights for Gays.
The Repukes use this successfully to beat us up. (Gay bashing if you will) with turnout producing anti-gay marriage legislation. This becomes a big nationwide issue because it has celebrities, great photo-ops, comedians love it etc.
Needless to say this isn't the best vote getter for Democrats. But we stick by our principles.
The furor dies down somewhat and it seems to be taken off the political table.
Repukes meanwhile make outrageous claims in beer gardens and Union Halls across this land that if Democrats get in power we will have quotas for gays. Yup you or your son or daughter might lose their job because they aren't gay enough. (Thats the nicer than the way I have heard repukes put it mind you but this board has rules)
It is a whispering campaign down here esp in the hispanic and African American communities. Quotas for gays.
So How does the Democratic National Committee respond to this horrible vote suppressing slanderous whisper campaign?
They proudly announce delegate quotas for gays. :banghead:
Front page of the paper, leading the newscasts and all over talk radio.
Couldn't wait till after the midterms Nah....
The convention after all is only two freaking years off.
Nice Job. :nuke:

1. If those "undesireables" would just quit being so visible in the party |

that'd be so much better for Joe and Jane Sixpack.
:puke:
I'll take the "bullet" to the foot, thanks. You can keep the subtle homophobia.

2. You Could Phrase Your Argument Better |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-26-06 11:36 PM by iamjoy
I agree to a point, all this noise only hurts us with most Americans, who have this quaint idea that marriage should be between a man and a woman and do not recognize this belief as bigotry.
I don't think we should change our stance on equal rights, we just need to get smarter about how we fight the battle. More subtle, crafty.
We better frame the debate, or go silent on the issue.
Then, Joe and Jane Sixpack elect us.
Then we vote for homosexual rights.

This isn't about Homosexual marriage (which I support) or gay rights in general.
This is about Repugs claiming that we really want to install job quotas for gays and the national Democratic party legitimizing that slander on a slow news day two months before mid-terms. :dunce:

4. In My Opinion, That Does Not Show Any Flaw On The Part Of The Democratic |

party. It shows flaw on the part of the voting public.
If we truly are to claim that everybody is equal, that the gay community have equal rights, then we have to think in those ways as well. That means that offering quotas to gays should be contextually no different from offering quotas to people who wear glasses. If we are going to present a position of being alarmed that they made such a position on gays public then are we truly treating them with equal respect or viewing them as deserving of the same rights as everyone else? Why should advocating anything on the part of the gay community or lifestyle be alarming if they are equal human beings deserving of equal treatment and respect as everybody else?
There should be no alarm. They are the same as you, me or anyone else. I understand some of the arguments that could be made about the framing, but the way I see it if the majority of the voting public chooses to vote against us because they are prejudiced and biased then they can go fuck themselves anyway.

are why we lose.
There has got to be a better way to convice the public that homosexuals are just like everyone else and deserve the same rights as everyone else without being hostile. I'd like to believe most of the people opposing gay rights are ignorant rather than hostile. Bigotry through ignorance.
So, change our tactic, education. Then, once we get the majority of the people agreeing with us, after ignorance is no longer such a large factor, if you want to tell the few remaining bigots to go cheney themselves, there probably won't be enough of them to affect an election anyway.

7. Yes. Education and a better choice of words. Lets sell our ideals. |
|
If we promote ending violence toward gays or equal rights for gays
or even a "what people due in the privacy of their won home is their own damn business act" of 2006
We win the argument. Most people don't want the government involved in their own sexuality.
It's a winning issue.
But when we proudly announce gay quotas for delegates it plays to the greatest fears of the public and pathetic democratic stereotypes. (quotas is an ugly unamerican word to most people)
It's a tight election year so yes these things count.

5. You're going to blame the victims while the crooks get away with murder |
|
and stealing elections? Diebold IS real. Election Corruption by the GOP is REAL.
The Democrats didn't initiate the gay and lesbian rights. The fascists who want to ostracize gays and lesbians did -- the conservative republicans. The GOP is the faction who is using gay and lesbian rights to get people to the polls... not the Democrats. It's the GOP who has been carefully putting Gay and Lesbian Marriage bills on the ballot in districts that need GOP support. They drum up the hysteria against gays and it works; it gets the conservative people to the polls to vote and while they're at it, they vote for the republican crooks on the ballot.
So... don't go blaming the victims. The democrats are totally fucked. The ONLY way to 'win' is to completely abstain from participation in the elections and voting process. A nationwide strike. A refusal to take part. Let the GOP have complete control until the idiots get sick of it. It's like radiation therapy, where they pretty much have to kill you to save you.

8. Great Victimhood as an electoral strategy. |

Lets win these things guys. We have the issues on our side and the Repugs couldn't be more corrupt and incompetent. Our leadership needs to focus on a strategy that wins. It's landslide time baby.
