The Repugs are really good at the 'sound bite'. We NEED to improve our use of it.

If you support the U.S. CONSTITUTION you are a PATRIOT
If you support those that attempt to DESTROY it you are a TRAITOR.
We Dem's and Progressives need to take back the flag - it BELONGS to US!!!

15. I intend to ask
Specter, scumtorum and English if they get it. Yep, I'm so lucky, get to have those 3 jackasses as my reps. I will hound them until they leave office with the slogan you've shared lark.

I thought there was an ounce of hope left for Specter, maybe, until he started kissing Scalito's butt after the hearings. Good-bye Constitution, hello fascists.

I can barely contain my excitement at how thorough Specter will investigate the NSA spying! Can ya' tell?

I just keep hoping the tide will turn and what goes around will come around.

You may say that I'm a dreamer... :)

It cracks me up that spellcheck always tries to change scumtorum to Santorum! Even it recognizes scum! lmao

24. Best hope of convincing Specter...
Remind him that Alito's ideas about the "unitary exectutive" risk upsetting the balance of powers between branches of government and usurping the role of the legislature. That is something that is a concern of his - the balance of powers.

Here's some backup:
You could refer to a ...2000 speech to the Federalist Society in which Judge Alito indicated his belief in a unitary theory of the executive, which he said, "best captures the meaning of the Constitution’s text and structure." Under this theory, Alito said, "the president has not just some executive powers, but the executive power - the whole thing."

That speech was consistent with a 1986 document written by Alito as a Reagan Justice Department lawyer in which he argued for the increased use of "presidential signing statements" intended to trump congressional intent and legislative history and "increase the power of the Executive to shape the law."

http://www.aclu.org/scotus/2005/23553prs20060119.html

Not saying there is really any chance of convincing him; I just don't know. But if there is any chance, that argument is likely to be the one that will do the job.

28. Specter's office can almost
tell me what I am going to say before I say it anymore. And I hear much sighing also, lol. Tough crap for them.

I'm concentrating on calling the Gang of 14 starting Monday a.m.

Thanks for the advice though Wordie! I'm just at the beating a dead horse stage with his office now.

20. bush* is "pulling a Brownie" on the Constitution
Subverting the framework on which our government was built will cause its collapse.

Fanciful fringe ideologies like "unitary executive" seek to institutionalize cronyism, secrecy, and incompetence. In the name of strengthening national security they are actually sabotaging our ability to respond with reason and competency.

It surprises me that democrats allow the republicans to get away with their little flag-burning routine, while they destroy the Constitution. The flag is a symbol, while the Constitution defines the reality of our way of life.

32. I agree with it completely ~ if we lose the Constitution, well, what would
we be? As Sen. Byrd said, the Constitution is protecting us each and every day, even when we are not aware of it.

The day he said that, a few months ago on Constitution Day, I believe, a friend called me very upset. Her car had been stolen, she had reported it, got a police report, informed her Insurance Co. iow, she did all that she was required to do. When the police found the car, it was damaged, she got the damage assessed and filed a claim.

The Insurance Co. assessor agreed that all was in order and her check would be sent out. Then she received forms from the Ins. Co. They asked her for information that had nothing to do with the claim. They wanted all records of her phone bills, electric bills, bank statements, savings, checking etc ~ and a multitude of other personal information. They also wanted her to sign a form stating that 'all copies of these 'proofs' would be considered originals.

She was shocked and called the agent and said she would not release such information to anyone. They said if she did not, her check would not be sent out. She needed it to get the car repaired, but was very upset about the intrusion into her personal life.

I remembered what Sen. Byrd had said. We wrote a letter to the company, with copies to her Representatives and the state AG stating that this was a violation of her 4th Amendment rights. She was not a criminal, and even a criminal would not be required to hand over, without probable cause, and a warrant, anything that did not relate to the case.

The 4th Amendment states that we should be 'secure' in our homes and 'papers'. She sent a copy to the Insurance Co. They were bribing her really, to get personal information that the law did not require to make a claim.

The Insurance Co. sent the check ~ without her having to comply with their demands. I realized that without the Constitution, she would have been forced to do something she did not want to do. They realized that she could take her case to court and probably win.

That's just one example of how the Constitution protects us that I experienced recently, thanks to Sen. Byrd! I am terrified to think what abuses there would be, if we did not have it.

Bush hates the Constitution ~ he is who the Founding Fathers feared when they wrote it. They knew there would be men like him who would grab power away from the people, so they wrote into it, as many protections against people like him, as they could.

The OP is absolutely right. Your are either for the Constitution or you are against America, imo. That's why the Patriot Act is so dangerous. I hope it can be rescinded as soon as possible.

33. not really "for" the constitution
I'm for the declaration of independence. I don't agree that the
constitution is working, or that it has been in power at all for
most of my life... so why would i support that?

Clearly the constitution is failed. I don't agree, I don't accept
a corporate slave state as the end product of an age of government
by the people.

But really, the constitution is so far away from what the fascist
experiment has become, there is little point in pretending that
a return to clinton corporatism is any different. Clinton too waged
illegal wars and a load of bad deeds, so i could hardly call him or
his DLC dems of defending the constitution. No, he helped further
undermine it.

Rats are chewing the constituion to bits and not amount of scotch
tape is gonna fix it. We need an upgrade from US-DOS 1.0

35. This is where it gets tricky
I believe in country over family, I have told off my republican family memebers, told them to get fucked. They exposed themselves as being against our constitution. I told family members that if revolution broke out I would shoot them in the back before they could say don't shoot. There are 2 repubs in this large group.

I don't give a fuck anymore, these people are trying to ruin our country. I don't care who they are. Where ever I find a person that supports Bush I let em have it, no matter where I am. The last guy was at Home Depot, I layed into him in the parking lott, then spit at his feet. Fuck these people.
