Tampa/St. Pete and W. Florida, Shop NOW! ERNESTO is coming!
I've found that this website "Tropical Storm Risk" (who are part of "Benfield Hazard Research Centre") has been about 95% accurate with their storm track predictions, and here what the current model is saying:

Prepare now.

but right now he's been downgraded to a Tropical Storm and has slowed down considerably - now moving at 8mph.

4. I don't doubt that the hardware and grocery
stores are jammed right now. People in Florida do tend to take these hurricane warnings seriously.

yes...stores are crowded....mainly getting water.and can goods..........the gas stations are doing fine ......but I'm sure there will be a run on them when people get their gas cans ready for the generators.........also propane for gas grills........I see the price has raised since Easter...........oh well........

lets hope it blows out into the ocean or gets very weak.........
I don't know ..but with the price of gas..........how many hours people can run the generators without going broke..........

8. how do you know that?
I'm just wondering, and being prepared at the same time. We still have homes on the west coast that have gone thru a bunch of tarps in place of roofs. Matcom, I know you've been around here a long time, but how do you base your forecast?

Look at the before and after pictures of the Richelieu Apartment building. According to Wikipedia, the people there weren't actually having a hurricane party as legend says but were holed up there because it was supposed to be safe shelter. If there has been one consistent thing we've learned about hurricanes the last 50 years, it's that the next one may be the worst yet. Hurricanes can change direction and strength abruptly. If you wait until you know for sure where they are going to hit and how bad, it's too late to prepare structures and move people out of harm's way. This is especially critical because a lot of people moved into the area during a 20 year lull in hurricane activity. They're like someone from Atlanta thinking they understand snow in Buffalo because Atlanta had 2 inches last year. This isn't fear mongering, it's playing it safe.

12. I said SHOP not evacuate, sheesh...
...I don't know if you ever lived in Florida during Hurricane season (I have), but everyone who has, knows that they need to plan for the worst when a storm is predicted to hit within 50 to 100 mile of there city.

If you wait too long, when you do go out to shop ahead of a storm, you will most likely find a lot of empty shelves where the drinking water, charcoal and stove gas was a few days earlier. This is going to be another long hurricane season, the supplies will eventually get used.

and Broward County area. My daughter lives in Hollywood. Good thing they just got their roof repaired and bought a generator.
