People need to recognize that Katrina changed everything. No issue is more important.

6. I'm curious too.... I don't see any changes...
It's forgotten and done with.

It didn't result in more compassion.

Dems didn't even blink.

What changed was poor people became more hopeless.

That's about it.

The cuts continue, and "progressives" can't even be bothered to make phone calls about it.

Even the reported suicides of those who survived the superdome and the convention center didn't even cause a ripple here on DU.

So, I join you in asking... what changed?

I"d like to have some renewed hope, so help me to see what changed....

11. Hello, bobbolink, how are you?
Katrina didn't change everything. It just emphasized and validated the failings of the current administration.

Hey, bobbolink, how much was you income last month? Mine was about $300. Guess how much my financial obligations were for that same month. About $2400. You think I don't know about poverty? Think again.

4. Indeed, it showed how bad it is, right here at home, on tv, lots of people
it showed the disconnect between words and actions, right here at home, on tv, with lots of people
it showed the lies, the arrogance, right here at home, on tv, with lots of people

people die, are suffering all over and it showed the disconnect, how poorly off this gvt is.

8. Yes.. it certainly did.
While we are all agast that the govt was shocked and did not know what was going on (even though CNN and every reporter was standing knee deep in water and shit), we begged the govt to do something. Few of us got off our asses and actually went in and picked those people up and brought them out of there. Now, we begged, "please do something, please do something". The govt said ok, we have no choice, we have to declare a martial law. And it happened, on the streets of our citizens we declared martial law on New Orleans. There was a suspension of all rights regarding our citizens.

How about that. Next time our fellow Americans are in need. Don't wait for the govt to declare martial law. You may end up in Gitmo yourself.

10. Katrina changed things because it woke people up to the corruption
Edited on Sun Aug-27-06 06:14 PM by TheGoldenRule
that is running rampant in DC. People saw that it wasn't just the evil thugs like chimpy but also the dems who did little during the Katrina crisis to stop the thugs from screwing the poor and disadvantaged over. I trust so few in office now because I know beyond a doubt that they don't care about us but rather serve their corporate masters-not the majority of people they were elected to serve! My sig line says "Never Forget 9/11 & Katrina" because those 2 events are the key to understanding just exactly how evil and corrupt the government is and how disposable we are to them! :puke:

12. That's what they said in 1871 about the fire in Chicago.
And in 1900 about the hurricane in Galveston. And in 1906 about the earthquake in San Francisco...

Those incidents changed everything.
