Local PBS station did a retrospective on Watergate this weekend.
I remember the Watergate hearings and John Dean's testimony, but I don't remember being aware of all the nasty, dirty little details about what Nixon was doing. One of the people interviewed commented that Nixon had raised dirty politics to a new level. His political enemies were to be smeared in any way possible and harassed by IRS, etc. This crap that Bush does didn't start with Newt Gingrich, as I used to think. It started with Richard Milhous Nixon! I want to see more about what an asshole he was - it would balance out all the docudramas about John Kennedy & his women!

1. This crap started, perhaps, before the Paleolithic era.

2. Nixon began his political career with a smear.
Called his opponent "soft on communism" and he went downhill from there.

We're still feeling the effects of Nixon and his goons.

Nixon hired this assclown named John O'Neill to got after John Kerry.
Sound familiar? Yup, the Slime Boat Veteran For Bush.

Nixon's most loyal goon is a regular on talk shows, G. Gordon Liddy.

Nixon's goon boss, Chuck Colson, "found Jay-zus," and now tries to make the US into a theocracy.

3. You should check how many Bushies were part of Nixon's
team. These guys had their political world views shaped by that administration and the aftermath of Watergate. The bad part of that is they didn't learn to be more honest and open, or to adopt a different philosophy, the lesson they learned was how to avoid getting caught.

4. Watergate Was Encyclopedic In Scope
BushCo took it international. Ronnie tried to take it into space, but (un)fortunately, it literally blew up in his face.
