I think we were 2621 yesterday. Bad day over there.

1. They'll make sure it doesn't match the WTC number by November
Can you imagine THAT campaign issue for the Dems? "We lost 3000 Americans in the WTC attack. So far, George Bush sacrificed more than 3000 brave young men and women by seeking revenge against the WRONG ENEMY. When will the madness end?"

3. And they don't want Katrina's numbers to add up, either
I believe that many more people died during Katrina than we've been told.

4. Absolutely...they stopped the death count WAY early
And shipped the bodies off to Bush funeral-gate buddies in Texas. I think the death toll was much closer to what was initially predicted. They'll never tell us the truth.

10. That would be excellent.
Why don't you e-mail that to John Dean.

13. Howard Dean would probably be more interested
Although John has been pretty outspoken on the issue, too!

19. Actually, I think the number is about 2900
It will be close enough to make that case, particularly since the smirking sociopath says no one is coming home on HIS watch.

5. Your death count is truly a touching tribute.
Reducing the deaths of beloved people to a number. Thanks a lot.

7. It was Tony Snow who called them "just a number"
I don't want anyone to forget about all of those "numbers." All of those numbers who were brothers and sisters and sons and daughters and dads and moms. All of those "numbers" who had a future and who were loved and who loved. All of those "numbers" who are now lost to the rest of us. Tfhe rest of us who miss them and mourn them.

So everyday I put out the "just a number" list so that none of us will forget them - even tho the news doesn't seem to even notice them anymore.

8. Yeah, I get your intent, but the execution is lacking.
No names. No acknowledgement that your death count is made of human beings.

Take a cue from George Stephanopoulos. Take the time to find their names and who they were.

I understand what you've been doing, but it's decayed into a cold, hard daily report of carnage.

15. You shouldn't use the word "exectution." It's cold.
The OP should take the time to find the names of the dead and who they are? And then what, post all 2700 names and profiles each time he mentions the carnage Bush has caused?

I will NEVER take a tip from George Snuffleupagus about ANYTHING...unless he can tell me how to grow that much hair on my head.

It was put in quotation marks, after all.

12. Yeah, the quotation marks really add the personal touch.
My point is simple. Accept it or reject.

14. Reject.
Your point may be simple, but I believe it is wrong.

The quotation marks signify that the writer is not using the enclosed words as his own. It is a fact that it is the Bush administration itself calling the death toll "just numbers," and therefore the OP was perfectly appropriate in using their terminology. I think your knickers are in a twist over nothing at all.

16. Likewise.
It's a bummer you can't understand or even attempt to see my point of view.

Nothing unusual about that at DU.

18. Ludicrous, Buzz! I both attempted to see your point, and understood it.
But I rejected it. I simply think you are off-base. Your smart-assed holier-than-thou attitude, assuming that people who don't agree with your premises are "closed minded" and don't understand simple English, is what is not usual here at DU. I even explained why I thought you were mistaken. I didn't do it in a snarky way, I just posted the reasons why I disagreed with your premise; it is the WH using the term "only numbers," and putting such usage of other's words in quotation marks is standard writing practice. Therefore, I reject your premise that it is rude and uncaring to call the dead "numbers." It is illustrative of the administration's lack of compassion, NOT the OP's.

Maybe you should just preface all your posts with "DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T SHARE MY OPINIONS."

20. Civil War? What Civil War?
:eyes:

2628 dead US Soldiers, 100,000+ civilians dead and over 68,000+ soldiers wounded/maimed, not to mention the countless mentally and psychologically scarred-forever soldiers and Iraqi citizens...

And meanwhile the news pundits/whores are so busy trying at all costs to actually deny that a civil war is about to start...About to start???? How about it started a while back and is now raging and about to get worse!!!!

:grr:

22. I just fully realized why the FCC allows violence.
Seeing any violence has a positive impact on the public acceptance of the notion of war.

Bang bang, shoot em up. Just like the cowboy and indian movies. Americans are removed from reality. And that is not an exaggeration. Europeans have seen the blood. We haven't.
