Nadler: "if he (*) were in Germany in 1933...to pass the Reichstag..."

More Attacks and Meetings on a Program Under Fire

<snip>

Mr. Nadler said that as he read the broad presidential power claimed by Mr. Bush, "if he were in Germany in 1933, he would not have required the Enabling Act to pass the Reichstag to claim the power," a reference to the law that gave Hitler broad power to run the country.

When asked about the remark, Mr. Nadler's spokesman, Reid Cherlin, said: "He's not comparing Bush to Hitler. He's saying that Nazi Germany is our most extreme example of the rapid expansion of executive power and even there, there was legislative approval of an emergency package."

In a later statement, Mr. Cherlin said Mr. Nadler had "picked an example that he shouldn't have" in illustrating his point.

2. Can we please stop apologizing????!!!!!
Bush is what he is, and if the goose-stepping boot fits, he should wear it!

You'll notice the Repiglican Party hasn't called on Christ Matthews to apologize for comparing Michael Moore to Osama.

No one's chastised Rick "I play with dead fetuses" Santorum for calling Democrats Nazis from the Senate floor.

The list is almost endless.

But we're democrats. So apolgies are our job.

:grr:

:nuke:

4. The Dem leadership believes that we'll look "strong" if we endorse
any type of aggression against a perceived threat (i.e. the Iraq war). They've got it wrong; the party will look "strong" if we act like the opposition and NEVER apologize for telling it like it is!

10. Agreed
We'll look strong if we stop cringing in front of the Repigs.

We'll look strong if we promote the strength and sanctity of the American home, first and foremost.

What's the sense of defending the "Homeland" (ick!) if that defense requires us to violate the ancient maxim that "a man's home is his castle?"

6. Oh, boy. Here it comes.
I can just see the title of Mannthrax's next article.

Those mean Democrats, why can't they just lie down and take what's given them? After all, we haven't seen an attack in over four years now.

I'm sure it was just a small part of the hearings, but this quote will get full airplay. With commentary, of course.

Never mind the testimony of a non-patisan constitutional expert such as Jonathan Turley.

9. Yes, that was vicious
But, of course, there was no chance for rebuttal. It wasn't a "proper" hearing anyways.

11. The words 'democrat' and 'apologize' should never be in the same story.
