What Should/Can We Do with Our 2006 Victory? |
|
What should start happening the instant the new Congress is sworn in? What can they do to help us win back the White House in 2008? Did anyone else see this article? http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=washingtonstory&sid=aHczjrHrbtxo

But how? what should be the priorities? Remember when the Repubs had their list of the Top 10 things they were going to get done in the first 100 days? What would ours be?

to accept as a natural part of governance.
Open the books on government as a truly free and democratic society would do.

Which lies are the greatest priority to expose? How should we do it? How can we elect the men and women who will really get the job done? This just seems like a huge opportunity! I want to be focused on getting the job done the right way when the time comes!!!

13. We will immediately be on |
|
the defnesive, responsible both ways, discoruaged, repressed from without(MSM) and within with too many establishment Joes who will not even allow certain crying issues to be breathed aloud and try to restore manners to a still GOP infested House.
What we NEED to do is take firm and swift steps immediately and never surrender the initiative. Positive steps and investigatory accountable steps as best they can. It has to be laid right at the door to the WH as quickly and consistently as possible if results cannot be attained in the Congress. if they are grimly determined not to be "overbold" in campaigning I hope that virtue of dogged determination(I hope this is not sarcastic) carries on legislatively to real achievement.
If it becomes what we and perhaps they themselves fear it is largely because of the fear itself. Reality must reassert itself first and justice must not lag.

17. Be honest - you want people to say IMPEACH or PROSECUTE so you can |
|
point out that the Dems in congress are saying something completely different from their base.
I suggest we all FIRST blame Clinton for what he actually did - he closed the books on BushInc crimes when he took office in 1993, when the revelations and documents from IranContra and BCCI would have STOPPED the growth of terrorism and exposed the Bush cronies and international financiers that Bush was protecting throughout the 5yrs of investigation - including Bin Laden.
THEN demand the books be opened.

7. Immediately tie up the administration with indictments |
|
and impeachment. Shut them down and make it so they are too busy covering their collective asses to do anymore damage on the domestic and world fronts. Do to them what they did to Clinton, lock them up in so many lawsuits that they can never pursue their fascist agenda any further.

What will * do after he's out of the WH? What will his life consist of? That is, if he ever leaves.
P.S. He will leave - I have no fear about that. I know I'll be partying, but I'll get very, very busy. You think you've worked hard the last 6 years? *'s mess will need a superhuman effort to ever make things right again.

feel like they matter...let each know that they are part of the solution, and that America stands for all (a la FDR.)
Take care of the poor Take care of the sick Punish the war-mongers Punish the pension-stealers Repair global friendships.
More specifically, I cannot say...but this is the picture of the US that I would like to reappear, the America that I would be proud of again.

16. You're assuming that there will be a victory |
|
Call me cynical, but after the performance of the last three elections, I'm not counting on a serious Democratic win again for a long, long time. Too many ways that the 'Pugs will shoot it down, from getting their base agitated and voting over issues like gay marriage, to various market manipulations, to who, or what is counting the votes.
I would suggest that we concentrate on actually winning first, then we can decide what needs to be done.

I agree with you completely.
Using the anti-war/anti-bush strategy to win elections is good and all, but its all dependent on the pugs not countering it with terror threats, finding OBL, etc.
There needs to be much more effort to promoting ideas mixed in with the anti-bush stuff. There definately doesn't need to be an attitude of already having won the elections. I can guarantee you that not everyone that is eligible to vote and is posting in this thread will indeed vote.

20. A couple of things strike me as critical . . . |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-28-06 11:49 AM by MrModerate
(Not in order of importance)
1) Investigate vote fraud (particularly black-box voting) and get some new standards out there. 2) Set a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq and what our post-involvement strategies should be (since the place is going to go to hell in a handbasket regardless of whether we're there or not). 3) Start fixing FEMA. 4) Get rid of this stupid "War on Terror" rhetoric and redirect efforts to block terrorist acts (by the criminal madmen who initiate them) through better international police cooperation and an international engagement on what makes people become terrorists (a huge can of worms, but let's open it sooner rather than later). 5) Begin building the underpinning of a universal health system. 6) Begin collaborating internationally on ways to reduce the carbon emissions that are killing the planet. 7) Reform the UN so it has the will and the muscle to intervene in genocide. 8) Give whoever's running Israel at the time a serious talking to so they moderate their dangerously stupid and racist policies. 9) Figure out something reasonable to do about Iran and North Korean nukes and nukes-in-waiting.
A long list. Let's get started.
Note that I don't include the "I" word anywhere. This is not because I wouldn't enjoy seeing chimp-boy tarred and feathered in Lafayette Park and then handed over to the Hague, but because I don't want to waste the two years leading up to 2008 on an impeachment imbroglio. The 'Licans cheapened impeachment to meaninglessness when they did it to Clinton. Let's be the grownups here and pursue more postive things. Chimp-boy will be impeached by history anyway.

Force Bush to veto some popular legislation.
More vigorous investigation into GOP corruption.
I don't know if we can stop the war from Capitol Hill, we may need the White House too.

That means getting out our message, getting out our supporters, and making sure that every vote counts (once).
Then we can worry about what to do.
