1. I read somewhere that it was allegedly for porn,
but the ultimate outcome would be that it expanded the White House powers to be able to control the internets

3. I know what it's for--the problem is, that the question leaves room
for only two choices, both favoring Bu$hCo.

2. Both and a lot more than that.
I really believe the admin is looking for political opponents, war protestors, and anyone else they find "offensive".

I guess there would actually be a point if they were looking for people who googled "how to make a bomb" but I doubt that's their intent.

4. Isn't there a cocktail named after a bomb?
Edited on Sat Jan-21-06 12:49 AM by chookie
I can't remember what it is called, but it is like "Irish Car Bomb" -- what if you try to google the recipe for it? Ooops, off to Guantanamo if you're not an ardent admirer of the Bush administration. Maybe not off to Guantanamo, but likely having FBI agents going to your workplace and asking questions there and at your neighbors about your loyalty to America....

I hate to think this way, but I fear that they're looking for a LOT more than terrorists. I strongly suspect that intend to harass people -- dissidents and such -- with info that they pry from Google.

Stephen Colbert had a brilliant piece on the other night -- he was showing The Dots: "Bin Laden Determined to strike Inside US", "Plan to use Commercial Aircraft as Weapons"; suspected terrorists in US taking flying lessons -- and how SOMEHOW "no-one" in the misministraion connected the dots. So he (satirically) went on to say that the Bush adminstration wishes to produce more dots (graphic of a brazillion dots) in order to be able to be able to connect them, as that will be so much easier! Yeah right. This is a lot more about Bush's enemies -- particularly as we are getting into an election year when people -- even the Mainstream Lap Dogs -- are talking IMPEACHMENT. Got to get rid of the troublemakers, right? Heaven forbid Rick Santorum isn't swept back into office.

5. I think it has nothing to do with porn or terror
I wish I knew a lot about tech stocks and all that. This just feels like a "business" thing to me. Who are Google's competitors?

7. Interesting idea

Google is one of the fantastic internet success stories. Funny how we had a major decimation of the dot.com industries and loss of tech jobs just as the Bush administration took office.(Remember how many Republicans and freepers were blissed out that internet yuppies had been humbled?) The same people do not WANT Google to be successful nor do they WANT Google to be powerful. Work is supposed to be painful, right? ABC News Tonight did a story about Google which showed what an anarchic place it is to work -- bring your pets, play volleyball, free meals, get massages and haircuts at work -- and The Man wants to shut that bullshit down, and bring us back to humble slaves barely scraping by, fearful of losing their jobs and willing to kill themselves and sacrifice their personal happiness for their CEO's personal happiness....

Google's informal motto is "Do No Evil" -- whew is that ever opposite of "preferred" companies like Halliburton and Lockheed....!

And betcha -- if Google outsourced more, they would not be a target. The gov't is trying to break Google....

9. I didn't know that about them - the anarchic workplace bit
Very interesting.
Certainly a threatening concept all on its own.

6. I don't know who their competitors are but I'd be willing to bet traffic
is wayyyy down. So...they win anyway--by discouraging people from ferreting out information. How clever.
