Walmart contractor & illegal immirants: busted in Gorham NH
I watch the new Super Wal-Mart being built every day. Intersting that they hired illegal immigrants to do the work instead of the unemployed, mill workers. Bastards.

Illegal immigrants apprehended in Gorham
Gail Scott

GORHAM— U.S. Border patrol officers arrested nine illegal immigrants in Gorham Friday morning with the help of three Gorham police officers—Det. Sgt. Brian Lamarre and Officers Jen Lemoine and Brad Willey, and New Hampshire Highway Patrol Officer Tim Godin.
According to Alan Parsons, acting assistant chief patrol agent in the Swanton, Vermont, U.S. Border Patrol office, two border patrol agents were in Gorham for a routine transportation check of the bus that stops at the Irving Mainway at about 8 a.m. on its way south. A third agent was in the area to attend a meeting.
While they were at the gas station, a van filled with five men pulled in. The agents fell into conversation with them as the men went in to the Irving to buy their breakfasts. The agents asked for identification.

1. I did the Y2K upgrades to the Burger King in
Gorham, NH back in the late 90's. It was a lovely little town that rolled up the sidewalks at night and had "moose" tours to raise money for the Chamber of Commerce. I still have my moose button. I hate to think that it has been tainted by the likes of Walmart. How has that affected all the fantastic mom and pop shops?

I got lost getting from Boston to Gorham, when I got to my motel. The lady that checked me in had saved me a plate because all the restaurants were closed and she was worried that I had not eaten. Lovely lady that checked on my every afternoon to see what I needed. I wish I remembered her name.

6. I don't remember
It was so long ago. There was an old house across the street that sold souvenirs and knick knacks. The Burger King was in walking distance up the street. If I remember correctly, you passed the Burger King on your right and the motel was on the left. It was older and very quaint, but very clean and quiet.

Do they still do the "moose" tours? hahahaha They told us that if Fish and Game stopped us to say we were on a logging tour, because looking for moose at night with lights was illegal.

7. Yup, they still do moose tours. The state does them now ha ha.
There are still mom & pop stores all over Gorham. In fact, those are the only places to get a job, other than App. Mtn Club.

9. I had co-workers that
did the Burger Kings in the surrounding towns. One had a fireplace in it! We thought they were the most fun we had during that job. We tried to cross the Canadian border to do some sight seeing, but one of the guys actually answered the border patrols questions honestly, when they asked if anyone of us had a record. He said yes, and they would not let him over the border...hahaha They did let us cross and take a picture then escorted us back to the US side.

Great little town...I truly loved my 5 days there.

2. Exploitation of Cheap Labor.
A typical corporatist practice.

4. Corporatists' best weapon for breaking unions and driving wages down is...
the encouragement of illegal immigration and the use of illegal immigrants. It's classic divide and conquer where you pit your enemies against each other. In this case, US workers against foreign illegal immigrant workers.

10. I stand corrected. El salvador to New Hampshire is quite the hike.
And in a van no less. Talk about a carbon footprint. So board should they be deported detained or sent to a third country for their crime of working illegally?

Not stirring hornets really curious what you think we should do with an El Salvadorean in New Hampshire?

11. They need to be protected from the asshole contractors in this
area. They had them all living on the second floor of a motel. I live here. I have never seen them. Were they forced to hide out like the Jews during WWII? I watch the progress being made on the Wal-Mart building. They are working these people hard.

I have no idea what to do with them. They're here, that's all I know. They work very hard.
