I learned from Thom that the one of the reasons for the Revolutionary War was the tea tax, but not for the reasons I learned in school. King George, who along with many other royals all over Europe owned stock in the East India Tea Company. They wanted their stock to increase so they thought up this scheme. Raise the tea tax on independently owned tea shops (at that time independent tea shops were on every corner), and ELIMINATE the tax for the East India Tea Company, putting all the other tea shops out of business. And we thought WalMart came up with that plan! I may have screwed up some of the exact details, but that is the gist of it.
