Can John Mark Parr be charged with obstruction of justice? |
|
If he was deliberately misleading and lying to the police for his "15 minutes of fame", then he should be charged with obstruction of justice. You don't have to be guilty of the crime being investigated to commit obstruction of justice. He wasted a lot of the police's time and resources with his incomprehensible, moonbat rants. I'm not saying that he is definitely guilty of obstruction of justice, but it's something to look into.

1. His confession was to an informant, not to the FBI - so no. |

First and foremost, if he's mentally ill he should be helped, not punished-- what purpose is served by punishing him other than revenge? Is the public good advanced at all? I don't think so. He sounds quite delusional to me.
Second, it is ultimately up to the police to decide how much to invest in investigations-- simply charging anyone who wastes their time is a neat way to cop out on their responsibility, but again, the public good is not served by letting the cops evade accountability. If the entire investigation hinged on a DNA match, then there are labs in Asia that could have done the work without flying Karr back to America. This was a show case for the CO cops.
on edit-- deliberately trying to interfere with an investigation is another matter.

5. Heard a registered Republican comment: How much did the GOP pay him? |
|
He went on further about how there was bad for bushco news all over the place then suddenly All Karr All the Time. Amazing how stuff that matters to the whole word gets bumped off page one by tabloid crap.

6. This is a very intelligent question |

I believe that a number of people confessed falsely to the Atlanta Child Murders, and they were not charged with obstruction, and here where I live a man was just discovered to have confessed to a murder he did not commit, and that confession interfered with the investigation of a serial homicide, yet he was not charged. False confessions are not uncommon, apparently.

9. Since Karr was charged with no crime in Thailand |
|
And therefore had no chance of being put in jail in Thailand, the question is moot.

10. Karr was charged with possession |
|
of child pornography. He has never been charged with child abuse, child molestation, rape, kidnapping or murder. Some people who "knew" him claimed he seemed creepy, especially around young girls. Some have claimed he seemed like an o.k. guy. He is said to have confessed to killing Jon Benet Ramsey. I heard him say he was with her when she died. Early on there were HUGE indications that his involvement with Jon Benet was impossible.
Why did the U.S. government go to so much trouble, publicly chronicled, to get this man back to the U.S.? How did a man of no means travel the world as he reportedly did? Was he hired by the gov't in a deal regarding the child porno charges? What could he have been doing for the government and why the need to pull him in so loudly?
IMHO this is not over and it was never about Jon Benet. What is it about? I dunno.
To all those who wish him dead or incarcerated for being ..... a creep, maybe Guantanamo and rendering are also favored by you. Put 'em away and keep 'em forever. Just because, dammit!

Karr was charged with possession of child pornography in California, not Thailand. The Thaiauthorities had no reason to hold him, and had not charged him with anything. In fact, what they did was deport him as an undesirable person, so they didn't even want to deal with him.
As for the rest of your nonsenses, I can't even begin to make any sense of them, particularly not the accusations in the final paragraph (what the fuck does the simple, factual claim that Karr was not charged with any crime in Thailand have to do with anything you posted here, really?). As best as I can make out, you suspect that Karr was brought in on the child porn business a few years back, and it was deemed by some shadowy agency of the US government that he would provide a perfect press diversion at some point down the line, so he was brought in, made to go to Thailand and continue sending weirdo emails to the professor, and then somebody in the US government decided it was time to deploy their press diversion asset (this would be roundabout two weeks ago), so they put him in play, and it all turned out the be false in the end, but maybe served its purpose as a middling two-week press diversion. Have I got that right? That's your theory? Because it is a certifiable theory. Let me put it another way: that's plain kooky.

I did not indicate that he had been charged with anything in Thailand. Glad to see you know better, though. He was undesirable to them at what point? He'd just been hired as a teacher - again.
Not charged with anything anywhere - except a misdemeanor five years ago in California. Yet detained in Thailand, "extradited" to the U.S., paraded before the world. Based on a "confession" and some kooky e-mails to a professor in Colorado? Those "facts" available for several years and dismissed as irrelevant by Boulder authorities, until now..
This guy is capable of manipulating the government to give him a free ride back to U.S.? People are offered "deals" all the time by government agencies to avoid some legal entanglement. Was Karr?
I do not theorize a government so prescient as to see the need for a media distraction several years down the road. Karr is kooky. Karr may be obsessed with the idea of killing children. But his presentation to the world has been made under false pretenses. What is the real story here?
I also regret seeing many posts calling for execution of this man as a child killer, molester, etc. At this point in time he has no such charges against him and the "rush to judgment" seems out of character for progressive minded people.
