3. Details please?
What's AAR done now? I still get the stream and listen on XM plus have the local station in Boulder. Seems pretty free to me.

4. Well, there's the whole phasing out of Mike Malloy in NYC.
As of Monday, 1/23, his show won't be heard on the airwaves of the flagship NYC station, but will still be streamable from the AAR website. It sounds fishy to me.

5. Radio is a profit driven industry
From what I've read they got a good deal. I'm not one to give up the AAR ship so soon. If Malloy's numbers go up then they'll bring him back. Sorry to say AAR has to pay the bills.

7. If Air America is on a mission to change the thinking of the masses,
it ought to remain free.

8. Give The Money To Local Non-Profit Community Stations
Air America is fun to have around...ear candy to hear the outrage of what I've already read, seen or heard in another forum. It's a commercial venture that is built to earn it's major revenues from commercial advertising. The way they do this is through stations that attract a specific audience and ratings...when they do this right, they'll make money...when they don't, they won't. For the past 2 years, they've expanded wisely and now are generating more revenues than ever...bucking a trend in an industry that has seen revenues fall consistently for the past 5 years. It's become a major program supplier to Clear Channel and Infinity...two of the major broadcast operations who have been instrumental in its growth and as long as they support and see profits in Air America, the network will continue.

Public stations aren't able to compete in a similar fashion and many are doing some of the most cutting edge radio. Pacifica stations provide quality programming, plus there's a growing network of small stations and programs that are assisting in creating true alternative voices and new flows of information...most importantly on a local level.

The xtian right has created a strong network of these small stations that have worked to spread the words of Dobson, Falwell and the fundie right wing mantra. There really is no alternative on the Progressive Left. There are many individual stations, but many struggle just trying to raise funds to stay on the air. $50 for one of those stations goes a hell of a lot further than $50 to Sirius or some large corporation.

Cheers...
