I had the most horrible experience on the way home from work
Some man in a pickup truck wanted to get into my lane. Well, me being a nice person, let him over. Then I noticed on the back bumpers were two stickers. One read "Bush for President" and the other "Sportsmen for Bush," which means he is a hunter and I abhor hunting, especially Repuke hunters. Aarrggg!!!! If I had seen those stickers beforehand, I wouldn't have been such a courteous person.

6. Fisherman Against Bush
My husband is a fly fisherman and member of Trout Unlimited. That organization is very anti-Bush and what he is doing to the national parks and our rivers and lakes. A true sportsman would never support Bush and his cabal. Unfortunately many sportsman like to talk big but all they want to do is rape the land for their own short-term pleasure.

8. Birders Against Bush
"According to estimates from the National Geographic Society, there are 15 million or more voting age Americans who have a serious interest in the welfare of birds. Huge numbers of adults in our country watch birds, feed birds, keep lists of birds, and give large sums of money to organizations that protect bird habitats.

In the United Kingdom the formidable political force of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is frequently compared to the powers of the Teamsters Union in the United States. But most of the millions of bird people in America do not realize that they have the potential voting power to control the outcome of almost any presidential election in our country.

This is not just a utopian dream. All commentators agree the election this fall will be decided by a razor-thin margin. In recent presidential contests, a swing of just a few thousand votes would have changed the outcome in a number of key states.

If only 270 Republican bird watchers in Florida had shifted their votes, President Bush would not now be in the Oval Office. A dozen or more states such as Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois are considered to be "in play" in the forthcoming presidential election. Here the vote is likely to be very close. In any of these states the number of adult bird enthusiasts is so large that an organized bird watcher vote could control the outcome."

to hate us damn lib'ruls. When I see Bush stickers on a vehicle (which are fairly rare these days) my modus operandi is simply to maneuver my car in front of that vehicle so they can read my lefty stickers. I drive normally, but try to stay in front of them for as long as possible. They need to be reminded that we're out here.

4. What's wrong with hunters?
I'm just asking. Lots of people hunt. The gun control issue is one the Democratic candidates cannot win on. Besides that, maybe he likes fishing more than hunting. Fishermen are considered sportsmen as well.

14. Why not...
ask the millions of REAL deer who would die of overpopulation, starvation, and disease, if it were not for deer season and deer hunters. Why do lofty libs insist on associating a sport enjoyed by millions, dems and repugs, with the ignorant right-wingers. He's a repuke and a hunter, ergo, hunting is bad. The repukes are not the only ones who could stand some enlightenment I fear. I read the same crap about the illegal immigration issue too. No capacity to seperate issues and put them in their proper perspectives. And no, I'm not a hunter or a fisherman, but I care enough to know why there is a deer season, and would also point out that my dad is a hunter. He's also a democrat who would like nothing more than to send w to the pen. Guess I'll have to let my dad know what an evil sonofabitch he is. Thanks.

29. the point....
or points. Notwithstanding the logic used in keeping the deer population from exploding,(think animals in your back yard digging through your garbage for something to eat). I know shithead republicans that like hotrods, but that doesn't make everyone who likes hotrods a shithead republican, nor does the hobby promote shithead repug values. I'm a democrat, and I too like hotrods, but never once has any action I've ever taken concerning the hobby, ever prompted me to have a shithead republican thought. Actually, the first point is far more important than the second. Keeping the animal population under control is more dire than the debate on the somewhat higly imaginable issue of animal cruelty. And of course, if we hadn't stolen the land in the first place, the animal population could stay at high levels because there would be plenty of food. But, it's a little too late for that now. We're here, and we're not going anywhere soon. Unfortunately, a decision had to be made, and the colonial invaders ancesters created hunting laws, which preserve the health of the animal population, and suits the ancestors of the colonial invaders as to the health and welfare of the human population. In other words, the animals lost the debate. Thanks.

25. I'm not a hunter but
I will happily eat the meat that my bow hunting brother in law occasionally gives me.

It's important to understand where your food comes from. And knowing that an animal died so that you could live. Read Bill Buford's book, "Heat" where he learns butchery in Tuscany. They celebrate the animal and eat the whole thing. This doesn't bother me.

Now, having said that, I'm a hypocrite in that I wouldn't eat my cats. However, if lost in the woods, or stranded somewhere, who's to say what one wouldn't eat?

V*g*t*r**n, that's an Indian word for poor hunter.

It would be a sport if the fish or deer shot back.
Or if a ball was involved.

28. Have you ever actually hunted or fished....
Believe me, the deer have plenty of advantage. My brothers are excellent hunters and come home empty handed (and they don't drink while out either) many a time. Many areas in the counrty have a surplus of deer due to the lack of natural predators. Now I don't go for hunting just to hunt. We eat what we kill, but I have no problem putting Bambi's Dad in the freezer (or Bambi when he is old enough).

I prefer to fish but have come home empty handed lots of times too. You never eat the small ones, and I don't like to eat a female that may have eggs so I release them. Many hunters and fishermen ARE enviromentalists (God, you should here the cracks they make about Cheney's 'hunting' skills). It is important to keep and preserve habitat for future generations. Don't write them off. It is a survival skill that is worth passing down.

33. Good points. But I still maintain
this is not sports. Let's call it an activity. Maybe your hunters are athletes. The ones I know aren't. They're lucky to make it the half mile out of the pickup to blast away at the animals. (not unlike ole hunter Cheney...with his bad heart and his SUV chauffeuring him up to the tame quail. Hardly "sportsmanship".)
Soccer is a sport. Basketball. Swimming. Tennis.
I've fished. I've never hunted. My father and brother hunted years ago. Hunting and fishing are outdoor activities.
But sports? No. Not to me.
The participants are generally out of shape and often the "sport" is fixed. The game are penned, the lake is artificially stocked, the "hunters" are picking off bears that show up at the local dump just as they do every night. Only tonight is the first day of bear season.
An activity.
Not a sport.

35. If you have to be in shape for it to be a 'sport'
I guess they were right to take bowling off ABC wide world of sports
There are many Sports that have their origin in hunting: running, javelin, archery, hurdles, etc.
The kind of hunting we do is in areas where you back pack in on horseback. You do have to be in good physical shape. I didn't have a stop watch on me but when a Grizzly decided he wanted my salmon-I am sure we all beat the 4 minute mile getting to the pontoon plane. I can't tell you the number of times I have been treed (and I was not in a deer stand).
I don't do that much hunting like that these days because of the physical demands. Lake fishing and fishing in the Gulf are just fine with me. That 'Cheney' type hunting is for rich wussies-that is an activity. Most hunters I know participate in the 'sport' of hunting and engage in 'sportsman' like rules of conduct too.
You make some good points and I certainly can understand you view point.

37. That wasn't my aim (pun intended),
but I did want to give folks both sides. I am a yellow dog Democrat but I have always had pride in my roots. My hubby is from India and is a vegatarian. I am a Texan of many generation and a meat eating farm girl. We are as opposite as two can be. He has taught me wonderful ways to cook veggies, I have taught him target shooting and fishing. It works for us because we respect each other. If the DEMS EVER hope to make in roads-we will have to respect the differences of opinion.

30. Back when shrubby was running against Ann Richards, I
was running a campaign to save the habitat of a bird called the Golden-Cheeked Warbler here in the Hill Country of Texas.

Bush came to our town to campaign for Governor and I asked him at that time what his position was on the environment and habitat conservation. He literally said to me: "I like to hunt. So, I'll make sure there are plenty of dear, hogs and turkey in Texas."

I didn't get the answer to the question I asked.
