Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 04:26 PM by BOSSHOG
do some Christmas Shopping; probably eat a Po-Boy at Sammy's on Bourbon or grab a great burger at Coop's on Decatur across from Margaritaville; check out the latest and greatest tacky t-shirts; spend a few bucks here and there; get a draft beer at tropical Isle and mozy on home. There is a new hurricane movie playing at the IMAX theatre on the riverwalk, but probably won't make it tomorrow.

And Gawd has not destroyed New Orleans so the Gay community will be able to carry on with Southern Decadence this weekend; pumping more money into the Big Easy's economy.

That place has ambience written all over it. One of my favorites, but I have so many.

5. I'm happy to report that Mother's is open and running
Although like other restaurants their hours may have been modified because they are having a hard time getting enough people to keep all shifts manned.

http://www.nomenu.com/RestaurantsOpen.html

The site lists the restaurants currently open in the area. Mother's is listed in the (CBD) Central Business District.

Come on down, the lines aren't near as long nowadays.

9. I had to fiond out what a Debris Sandwich is made with!
"DEBRIS SANDWICH

This is a horrible name for a sandwich, perhaps, but I find it amusing. It's not trademarked. It's on the Dow Jones database from 23 March 1988, and appears to have been invented at Mother's in New Orleans. Mother's has also expanded to Omaha in the past year or so. There are only about 15 Dow Jones hits and 20 Google hits. (It's not even on Roadfood.com.) However, it'll grow in popularity.

Mother's says it's made with "all the beef that falls in the gravy" while roasting. A "debris" sandwich is usually roast beef and ham, with pickles, cabbage and mayonaise. Natchez, also in New Orleans, serves it with sliced pot orast and coleslaw.

Another regional American dish!"

And this one....
"NEW ORLEANS magazine began in 1966. This copy is a hard to read in the center near the binding, so I hope it's right...I found nice "French bread" and "red beans and rice" articles, also.

January 1967, NEW ORLEANS, pg. 60:
DINING New Orleans' ironic sandwich empire._
Pg. 60, col. 3: Mother's is a typical case in point. People crowd the Poydras Street shop to taste Ferdie's Special, a combination of roast beef and ham, ordering it with or without "debris" the outerskin (or cracklin) of that meat. ("Easy on the ham, easy on the roast beef, and heavy on the debris.")
(Now called "debris sandwich." See ADS-L archives--ed.)"

8. Another fine establishment indeed
but I'm not much of a sweets eater. I pig out on appetizers and entrees then my wife throws me in a wheel barrow and sets me out on the curb.

Curious to hear if anyone talks about the Shrub's visit and what they thought of it.

10. I sincerely believe that the good folks of New Orleans
don't give a fuck about that monster, just as long as he leaves and I hope he never comes back. So many awesome po-boys to choose from and so little time. Catfish, shrimp, crawfish (in season), roast beef and then there's Central Grocery's Muffaletta's. Oh my!

12. Before the Hurricane
they had moved to a different location in the quarter and closed the original store but I don't know if they have reopened or not. I just called their old phone number and I got the "We're sorry that number has been disconnected." That was a neat store. I bought lots of CD's there and bartered some of my old LP's with them.

16. Have a great time Rowdy
My sweet bride of 32 years is off to visit her Mom through next weekend and I'm lost, don't know what I'm gonna do this weekend but thought I'd get some Christmas shopping out of the way tomorrow. Drunk Sailor gaggle in Slidell sometime in the next few days. Our organizational and planning skills faded away after we retired so we don't know exactly when we are gonna do it, probably Saturdayish. I have a weakness for the Alpine's Blackened Shrimp Po-Boy. They also have(had) a blackened Shrimp Fajita, with the juice dripping all over the place, aaargh! And Remoulade has a blackened chicken Pizza. (Notice a trend?) Remoulade also has a Muffaletta pizza if you want to really get wild. And if you have a hankering for BBQ, Zydeque is a great place on Iberville almost intersecting Bourbon. Very comfortable place, reasonable prices, great service (that we had) and excellent BBQ product. One would need to live a hundred years to enjoy it all in the Easy. I hope you all let the good times roll. Let me know of your weekend if you have the chance.

14. The fuck has SOME nerve showing his face there...
after what he did, or more accurately did not do,
to those poor people.
Take note America- he doesn't
give a flying fuck about you or you sons
and daughters.
