The most surreal pictures I've seen

The government ... um .. aid coming to NOLA after the Katrina hurricane. No person can look at this picture without being seriously concerned about the government's attitude towards the US own citizens.

The two Americas. Shall the twain ever meet? ;-)

The incredible Husseinistic, almost Stalinist, sign praising 'Our Leader'. Dang! This freaked me out. At the same time, US troops was busy tearing down Hussein-signs in Iraq.

Imagine, a gay prostitute poses with a false name and gets access to the White House press room many, many times. When discovered, and with this photo around on the internet for all to see, the gay-phobic, militarist, puritanian Christian right swallows the whole thing like .. ok, that was tempting, but I wont.
But it makes you wonder.

The Christian right heats up in front of the cams during the Schaivo process. The pic was one of many juxtaposed against pics of real grief here at the DU some time back, I remember that thread well.

The Jesus-trailer. When turning car to left, Jesus raises left hand, when turning right he raises right. Currently, it's in parking mode and then both arms are outstreched, as if to stop people from passing.
I wonder what's in the camping box in the back? Wine and biscuits? And the construction looks a bit rickety? What happens if that SUV collides with another car?

Imagine the last thing you see in this life; a spinning Jesus projectile coming towards you at high speed, released by a fundie Christian clad like Captain America.

I'd have thought 'Now I'm seeing the real face of the war on terror'.

1. Pic #2: Worst case of flag desecration ever
(with the possible exception of G. Gordon Liddy in his flag Speedo). They want a Constitutional amendment to ban flag burning, yet it's just fine for some yahoo to deck himself out like he's just escaped from an explosion in a flag factory.

And he seems to have the flag draped over his...crotch.

How is that "respecting the flag?"

on edit: Perhaps it's there in case he gets the urge to "wave it?"

It's a real patriotic American crotch! Filled with red, white, and blue spunk!

Because draping yourself in a flag makes your arguements more valid!

52. The militarization of the police
is one of the biggest problems for civil liberties that we face. When the state police (that's who is in the picture) have armored vehicles and train for raids like army commandos, they'll start treating citizens like the enemy.

If I were king for a day, I wouldn't let any police force have any weapon or transportation more formidable than what's available to the public.

27. Where do you think state police get money for gear like that?
They get it from all those federal grants for the 'War On Drugs'. Most of those grants come with a lot of strings attached, too, like allowing the feds to assume command of state officers for multi-jurisdictional task forces, special federal training and indoctrination of officers, etc... so the state police become the 'state police, a subsidiary of the federal government'.

Look it up. Even happens in municipal police departments to some degree.

80. Much of all state government funding comes from the federal
government like for schools, highways and the like. Apparently, in this situation you can pick whom you want to be the bad guy depending on the point you want to make. I don't believe the Louisiana State Police were taking orders from anyone but the governor of Louisiana. Sorry but rational thought is a disease.

10. The dude in the flag get up doesn't bother me. He's talking to us...
which is better than any of the normally dressed crooks in the Bush administration does. Okay, I might be a little bothered by the suspicion that he's wearing patriotic underoos to match his ensemble. And maybe that flag-draped codpeice is a little over the top. But he's at least engaging in democratic debate. He's talking to people he disagrees with and no one is packing heat. That's how we do business in America. Or did business, anyway. God help us if they steal another one successfully.

Why not "Department of Domestic Security"??

and how there isn't less, there is MORE!

Use #1 - keep it number 1. This photo is a winner!

No! (to someone posting above). This photo was not taken in Haiti - either during Papa or Baby Docs' regimes or during the U.S. and French invasion of Haiti when they escorted Aristede to a U.S. aircraft and eventually shipped him off to Africa and dumped him, then put some true terrorists in charge. Was it because Aristede was a Creoleo-Fascist?

(In case you haven't heard, yet - PNAC is now at war with Islamo-Fascists and wants us to be.)

Our leader. Period. End of discussion.

How telling.

I feel like I should gaze up at the pic in adoration, click my heels together and stick my arm up, hand outstreched with the palm down. My fearless leader. He will protect me. He tells me the Other is coming, but I trust him. He tells me he can protect me and he sounds convincing.

Also, I am reminded that Big Leader is watching me. I know that he will see me if I do anything wrong. I know I should not ask any questions. I will not delve into the memory hole or pay attention to any things which do not support Big Leader. He will see me.

The Nazi army helmet was well-designed to protect the maximum amount of the wearer. It would have been stupid to use an inferior design. That said, the police shouldn't be wearing army gear. They seem to have forgotten that they're not in enemy country, and it's their fellow citizens that they're threatening with those guns.

50. Pic #1: Black people = automatic expectation of violence
That's what drove me crazy about the whole Katrina disaster (besides the completely incompetent nonresponse, of course)--they imposed martial law (which was it, official or unofficial? or does it matter?) and refused to let people out of New Orleans because they truly expected the place to explode with violence. But that never happened to the extent they thought it would, even though it SHOULD have--against the government because of its negligence. And all that focus on the "looters", when all those people were doing was wading through chest-high toxic water to get a few things to survive. The newscasters were so excited--"Look at those black people stealing!!" Talk about stereotyping.
