Did I say THANK YOU? Love your name, WePurrsevere! And that, we DO!

That's a pretty kitty, btw.

This appears to be a thread filled with cat-fanciers. My cats love thread! :D

16. YW:-) The marmalade kitty is Punkin & my avatar is Salem at the moment.
Yes, you said thank you and you're very welcome. I believe all forms of creativity should be encouraged and land mark accomplishments, such as publication, should be applauded. B-)

Glad you like the name... it's one I've had for a while and along with "this too shall pass" is sort of a personal philosophy for me.

Although we are over all animal lovers in general I'm more of a cat (and horse) lover and my husband is more of a dog lover. This results in us being "suckers" and taking in strays now and then (although we've had to stop for now due to a full house, some needing "furever" homes elsewhere, and tight funds). Punkin, my DU mascot, was born to a feral mommy we had rescued after being "dumped". He was very tiny and frail at birth but between a determined mommy cat and a determined me he survived and became my baby. He loves to crawl under my shirts and blankets and have me carry him around in my shirt made into a "Punka Pouch". :D

Salem is solid black and very affectionate toward me... even giving me kisses and "hugs" (much like my big black "puppy" Sam). :)

There seem to be a lot of animal lovers in general on DU but I've always thought that Dems seem to appreciate the independent and yet loving nature of a cat more then Republicans... we don't expect and feel we "deserve" to be fawned over quite as much I guess. ;)

17. That's funny about Punkin - our tabby, dB, we think, is feral.
MAN is she jumpy. We call her our "skittish kittish."

The tuxedo cat is Ernie, whom we call "the world's greatest dog trainer." He had a run-in with our dog, Bear, when the dog was a puppy, and he drew blood. Ever since, that dog bows and scrapes and defers to Ernie, and will walk all the way AROUND a room to avoid crossing paths with him. All little, OLD, crotchety, scrawny Ernie has to do is give Bear that "look," and Bear will go slinking into a corner. And Bear is a large dog, a shepherd, and must weigh 60 pounds by now. It's really rather amazing to watch! Bear is totally intimidated by the "grumpy old man" cat. I'm a sucker for animals myself. Always have been. More of a cat person than a dog person (that's my husband, like yours) but Bear seems to love me a lot and he does make my heart melt.

Ahhh... critters. :loveya:

19. And back atcha!
I've read some of your posts. Enjoy them a lot. Aren't you a Vietnam veteran? And did I ever thank you for your service? Many DUers do when we see a comrade here who's served, which is another reason why I so love this site. For all the arguing and swearing and hell-raising and whining that we do, I think we're all pretty damned noble here.

Hugs!

I am no veteran...someone once thought that was what my name meant...its nothing that heroic
:-/...Its merely the first three letters of my last name and year I was born :).

I do love your posts and thank you very much-I think your writing is awesome :). (Heh btw I think the I can remember us bonding over agreeing how disgraceful the hatchet job Maureen did on Prez. Gore was ;))

And yes I love DU-I wish I had registered sooner instead of just lurking for years...but here I am and here I intend to stay!

Hugs back at ya :pals: and I am sure we will see each other around :)!

24. Hey, thank you, friend!

Ah yes, the much-deserved Dump-on-Dowd Day. And I STILL think she was part of the problem there, reveling in her demonization of Al Gore because maybe she thought it was much better to be able to go drinking with a prospective "president" than to look up to him for his intelligence, sense of commitment, genuine instead of phonied-up compassion, and sincere (rather than opportunistic) public service. I wonder if she's ever expressed regret for her bad judgment, or for the role she played in making Al Gore appear less appealling than bush was, to at least a few voters. But then again, we really ought to be hearing that regret from a small ARMY of reporters who are equally guilty, if not moreso.

Funny you bring that up. You just made me flash back the portions I saw of Brian Williams' interview with bush. It makes me wonder, now that some in the mainstream media seem to have sprouted little buds of what may ultimately prove to be gonads when it comes to covering bush. Some of 'em are becoming perhaps a little "uppity," asking impertinent questions that you know bush would rather not have to deal with. Back in the day, when an Irish reporter gave him that kind of grilling, what we heard afterwards was the White House complaining loudly about how she had the nerve to treat him disrespectfully, and how they'd never permit her access to him again. Their idea of disrespectful treatment was her asking simple questions trying to get his reaction to the truth, questions nobody on our side of the Atlantic dared even include in their cheat-sheets.

Anyway, thanks. I'm sure we'll see each other around here. I can't peel myself away from DU. It's still my oasis amidst this barren desert of horror in the last nearly six years. Glad you're here weighing in.

Cheers and hugs! :toast:

I did go through a short stretch (Hey! Oxymoron Alert - or would that be "Oxymoran"?) where stuff in the news, bush- and republi-CON-related, and everything else, just left me on overwhelm. A real writer's block. You guys have been very supportive. Sometimes just being there to vent and rant with, even.

Cheers to you all!

 - and I've learned a thing or two about smilies! :D
