If it's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is |
|
for a rich man to get into heaven, why should it be so easy for rich men to get into our government?
Listening to the disucssion with Norm Ornstein talking about how the Congress (and the media) have let Americans down and the suggested changes for improving Congress' work on behalf of the American people, it occurred to me that most of the Congress can't really identify with average Americans...their wealth blinds them.

1. IT is the need for campaign funds that corrupts them. |
|
Public financing of elections and the end of "Corporate Person hood" would straighten a lot of the problems out.
That being said you are correct, the rich people in the government have no way to identify with "Average Americans".

2. There's a relation between government and the |

kingdom of heaven?
If anything, it's an inverse relationship. Under that assumption, your observation is fully compatible with the data.

 A Christian living in say China could easily consider a teenager in America earning minimum wage at McDonalds to be rich...

4. And, of course, "He who believes |

and is baptized will be saved, he who does not believe will be damned" - Mark 16:16
Why should it be so easy for non-believers to get into our government?

Although I am a christian and attend mass (more than) weekly, this passage has always terrified me. Although I am not wealthy by the standards of the GOP, I am very certain that I am wealthy in the eyes of God. I am also certain that this passage is not a metaphor. I'm afraid I may be unable to make that tight fit in the end.
