The Replug Dr. Sally Satel continues to ride PTSD veterans
From Slate.com "Once a {veteran} recieves a monthly check his motivation to hold a job wanes."---"A lingering threat are clinicians who are too quick to reach for the permanent disability claims form."

This replug just won't quit. Just like most replugs who talk out the side of their face she never served a day.
All this so called Doctor does is she continues to go after PTSD veterans ..trying to turn the victims into the guilty.

1. Have you read George Lakoff?
Her choice of words fits perfectly into his idea of "Authoritarian Father".

Perfect example.

Maybe misfortune will one day overtake her.

That would be a real shame.

2. Dr. Sally's New Kidney
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 09:15 PM by acmejack

On November 22, 2005, Dr. Sally Satel, M.D., issued a deeply personal account of her need of a kidney transplant because of the "no-fault" failure of her own kidneys. She wanted a normal life rather than dialysis due to convenience and she was not critical of any potential donor. Her writing was very moving. All can empathize with her and wish her a speedy recovery now that she has a new kidney.

But this Dr. Satel is the same anti-veteran physician on the payroll of the neoconservative American Enterprise Institute (AEI) who openly criticized military veterans making claims for disabling PTSD after they were assigned to duties in Iraq, Afghanistan and past wars. Satel accused veterans of using "an underground network advises veterans where to go for the best chance of being declared disabled."

Dr. Satel believes that PTSD is not a medical diagnosis of any social consequence. Those who seek VA benefits for PTSD were recently labeled by Dr. Satel in a New York Times op-ed of March 1, 2006 as, "ut it's also very likely that some of the veteran baby boomers who have filed claims in recent years did so not out of medical need but out of a desire for financial security in their retirement years."

In the same op-ed, Dr. Satel stated, "it is often hard to know which applicants can be helped with short-term psychiatric care, which are seeking a free ride and which are truly deserving of the diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder and thus long-term care and payments of up to $2,300 a month for life."

3. Our soldiers deserve...
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 09:23 PM by TwoSparkles
..."a monthly check" and some time to decompress and find peace. Don't our soldiers deserve some time to heal, process their emotions and gain strength again?

Why is a job the end all be all--to Republicans? Why is "work" the ultimate goal here? Yes, we want these soldiers to eventually hold down jobs, be successful and attain career goals. However, first things first. Soldiers returning with PTSD need and deserve time to recover and to be whole again.

In my opinion, it would be appropriate to send PTSD-ridden soldiers to Hawaii--to heal for a year--all expenses paid. They've given up their minds for our country--and now this bitch is doubting them and accusing them of faking it. Unfrickinbelievable.

Holding down a job should not be priority one--wellness should be tantamount.

We should be holding these soldiers hands, giving them time and being patient with them--while they put their lives and their minds back together.

I'll never understand these myopic, compassion-lacking Republicans. So quick to use our soldiers in their wars, and so slow to help them overcome the effects.

Why is employment so frickin important to this woman--as she stands at the feet of our soldiers who are psychologically scarred?
