If only the Democrats had been like the Republicans ...
If only the Democrats had been like the Republican during the Clinton era, we wouldn't be having half the problems we're having today. But, the Democrats even today refuse to unite behind a single philosophy; a single spokesperson; self-aggrandizing idiots have taken over the the Democratic Party, while the Republicans have effective party bosses who are doing a good job keeping everyone in line even while Bush's popularity tanks. I can tell you what the Republican Party stands for more easily than I can tell you what the Democratic Party stands for. For the average voter, the Democratic Party is a spineless mishmash of "safe" views -- the average voter has it right.

2. What makes you think that "our" guys and gals aren't bought...
and paid for just as much as "their" guys and bitches? Most are afraid that if they speak up, the money men will threaten to pull their jobs out from underneath them so we get a "Go along to get along" Democratic party. Others are just blatantly either drinking the Republican Kool-aid or just have sold their souls for wealth. The Democratic establishment and elites don't give one shit about the average voter, they only care about fighting through the rest of the pigs to get a suck on America's tit.

3. I thought you were gonna say that immediately after the frist WTC attack
Clinton should have encouraged the news media to step up the fearmongering, declare an unending war on terror, work in some mysterious anthrax attacks targeted at conservatives in the media and political opponents (to keep the sheep afraid), and then started a war with Iraq in the name of National Security.

Then we could have started passing legislation inspired by Orwell, and given Clinton unprecedented powers.

Because, yeah, if we had done all that, then we would be in power now. Clinton would still be president, for an indefinate amount of time. And the "War on Terror" could still be going on. Anytime we needed to win an election or push through our fascist legislation, we could just scare people until they stop questioning us.

4. ahem
I can tell you what the Republican Party stands for more easily than I can tell you what the Democratic Party stands for.

What they stand for and what they do, though, are two different things, as just about everyone in America has finally figured out.

Major problem.

5. Well, Clinton was the best president the republicans had...

NAFTA, COPA, DOMA, DMCA, 1995 welfare reform, 1996 telecom act, 55mph speed limit rescinding (adds to traffic accident, more wasteful oil usage, greenhouse effect problem...), and a score of others...

And, of course, no good deed goes unpunished. (Whitewater, Monica, et al...)

I somewhat agree with your assessment.

And I'm starting to see what the "R" party is doing... for once I can see the forest and the trees. Depends on the issue, but one thing I will never change my mind on is how offshoring is a huge threat to our national security and economy. Recent terrorist attacks have proven that too.

6. Look in your own post
Democrats refuse to unite behind a single philosophy.

That would be right and it happens here all the time. Any time people are asked to rally behind anything, there's always those who come along with a better idea or critique who insist they will not be a lockstep partisan.

And then blame the Party for the lack of unity.

7. We need a philosophy to unite behind
Edited on Sat Jan-21-06 12:02 PM by Onlooker
I don't think I can propose that philosophy; it has to come from our Democratic Party leadership. But, instead, the Party has multiple approaches (and not much of a philosophy), and we all choose our favorite, which dilutes our strength.
