The new GOP buzzword: Fascism
Wow! CNN is running with this story? Am I still dreaming?

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush in recent days has recast the global war on terror into a "war against Islamic fascism." Fascism, in fact, seems to be the new buzz word for Republicans in an election season dominated by an unpopular war in Iraq.

Bush used the term earlier this month in talking about the arrest of suspected terrorists in Britain, and spoke of "Islamic fascists" in a later speech in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Spokesman Tony Snow has used variations on the phrase at White House press briefings.

Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pennsylvania, in a tough re-election fight, drew parallels on Monday between World War II and the current war against "Islamic fascism," saying they both require fighting a common foe in multiple countries. It's a phrase Santorum has been using for months.

And Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld on Tuesday took it a step further in a speech to an American Legion convention in Salt Lake City, accusing critics of the administration's Iraq and anti-terrorism policies of trying to appease "a new type of fascism."

1. Fascism is a very useful word
Very few people understand it much more than "Bad and Authoritarian" so it can be used to tarnish pretty much anybody.

11. kind of like the term "poopy-head" or "communist".
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 09:28 AM by cryingshame
the way many Freeper-types use the word communist amounts to gradeschool name calling with no understanding of actual meanings.

Sean and Rush will be using the "F" word soon, most likely.

2. Projection
Projection: Projection is one of the defense mechanisms identified by Freud and still acknowledged today. According to Freud, projection is when someone is threatened by or afraid of their own impulses so they attribute these impulses to someone else. For example, a person in psychoanalysis may insist to the therapist that he knows the therapist wants to rape some women, when in fact the client has these awful feelings to rape the woman.

5. definitions for fascism......
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 09:26 AM by melissinha
YOU are the fascist.

DEFINITIONS:

n : a political theory advocating an authoritarian (John Dean's adjective for this government) hierarchical government (as opposed to democracy or liberalism). (I swear the description actually listed fascism as being opposed to liberalism, which would clearly exclude us, wouldn't it... and puts itself square on Rummy and Bush's shoulders)

A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator(signing statements, eavesdroppin anyone?), stringent socioeconomic controls(No Children Left behind by means of stupid standard tests, gay marriage bans), suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship(color coded threat system, gagged media who gave us conservative viewpoints 24/7), and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism(plastic flag stickers everywhere and the abandonment of the African American community of New Orleans).

You, Rummy are the poster boy for fascism.

9. Fascism: The last time we almost became a fascist state (before now)
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 09:29 AM by Cooley Hurd
...was in 1933 with the attempt to overthrow FDR in the early days of the New Deal. The parallels to today's Repiglicans are STUNNING!

Business Plot
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Business Plot, The Plot Against FDR, or The White House Putsch, was a conspiracy involving several wealthy businessmen to overthrow President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933. Purported details of the matter came to light when retired Marine Corps General Smedley Butler testified before a Congress committee that a group of men had attempted to recruit him to serve as the leader of a plot and to assume and wield power once the coup was successful. Butler testified before the McCormack-Dickstein Committee in 1934. In his testimony, Butler claimed that a group of several men had approached him as part of a plot to overthrow Roosevelt in a military coup. Gerald MacGuire vehemently denied any such plot. In their final report, the Congressional committee supported Butler's allegations on the existence of the plot, but no prosecutions or further investigations followed, and the matter was mostly forgotten.
<snip>

Clayton Cramer, in a 1995 History Today article, reminded readers that the devastation of the Great Depression had caused many Americans to question the foundations of liberal democracy. "Many traditionalists, here and in Europe, toyed with the ideas of Fascism and National Socialism; many liberals dallied with Socialism and Communism." This helps explain why some American business leaders viewed fascism as a viable system to both preserve their interests and end the economic woes of the Depression.

10. They'd better watch themselves....they have a bad habit of playing
with shit, and then acting all shocked and surprised when they find themselves up to the asses and smeared head to foot with crap.

This WILL get turned on them, eventually. It always does...
