The Rest of the Abu Ghraib Photos & Videos

While we're waiting for the rest of the photos from Abu Ghraib to be released or leaked to the media--and while the pro-torture crowd tries to convince us that what we see in the available pictures is no big deal--it'll be instructive to reiterate what two high-level officials have told us about them. Members of Congress and the Defense Department, among others, have been privately shown many of the thousands of photos (and briefed about the videos) that the rest of us have yet to see. Here's what they said about them.

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld:


First, beyond abuse of prisoners, there are other photos that depict incidents of physical violence toward prisoners, acts that can only be described as blatantly sadistic, cruel, and inhuman.

Republican Senator Lindsay Graham:


The American public needs to understand, we're talking about rape and murder here. We're not just talking about giving people a humiliating experience. We're talking about rape and murder and some very serious charges.
