Airports are a nightmare
and gonig to Los Angeles takes just as long as the train due to the silliness. So it is time for many of us to look back at trains and use AMTRAK... folks this is definitely now the way to go... AMTRAK

1. I second that. If you can spare the time, use the train!

2. funny...I fly all the time
and have noticed very little disruption. I have taken six or seven flights since the 'water bomb scare' and while the new restrictions are a bit of a pain (and I believe unwarranted) I have had no troubles getting through any airports (Boston, Chicago, Dayton (ok...not the biggest airport in the world) and Atlanta to name a few).

4. Actually, delays are reported as being reduced.
...a result of people putting everything in checked baggage and not dealing with the possible hassle of carryons.

5. that one took me a while to figure out
your post I mean...I read 'carryon' as 'crayon' (traumas of having a three year old in your house) and it took me a bit to reason out why 'crayons' would be a hassle...

:-)

But nothing to wash it down with.

7. Crayons aren't allowed in carry-on baggage either...
Somebody might mix periwinkle and burnt umber and fabricate a rudimentary "Crayola bomb"...

8. most people I would hang with
use all the periwinkle first so that would not be a problem with my crowd...but then again, profiling would be a big assistance there..."Periwinkle Users Line ONLY"

14. Me too...
I flew last weekend and was shocked at how little trouble there was, at Detroit Metro and at New York JFK.

Rescuers spent hours pulling the dead and injured from the
twisted wreckage of the trains. At least 11 people died.

GLENDALE, California (CNN) --
A suicidal man will face murder charges after parking his vehicle on railroad tracks
Wednesday, causing a commuter train collision that killed at least 11 people outside
Los Angeles, officials said. "This whole incident was started by a deranged individual
who was suicidal," said Glendale Police Chief Randy Adams.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Juan Manuel Alvarez, got out
of the Jeep Cherokee before impact and watched the collision, Adams said.

AMTRAK TRAIN DERAILS IN ARIZONA
By Paul Anderson, ENN Correspondent
http://www.emergency.com/kmancrsh.htm

KINGMAN, ARIZONA (ENN) - More than 150 people were injured when an Amtrak train carrying about
300 passengers over a bridge derailed on Saturday morning when a trestle collapsed, apparently
caused by recent flash flooding. In all, 153 people were treated for injuries, 14 victims were
admitted to hospitals and at least three people were reported to be in critical condition.
About 100 people were treated at Kingman Regional Medical Center, 70 for bruises, sprains and
other minor injuries and 30 for more serious injuries.

16. Wow, you sure derailed this thread. Terror on the rails!
:)

I wonder if the accidents have anything to do with AmTrak being kept on a starvation budget.

At least you don't have to listen to big brother every 15 minutes on the loudspeaker as part of a huge national hoax.
