Dear Air America Radio
What didn't I buy? I have a goddamn vortex vacuum, I've bought the herbal penis enlargement supplements (I am now happily hung like a tyranosaurus thank you very much), I called the credit councellor people, and when the ads vanished from the Internet feed I listened to 11 minutes of muzak between CNN news breaks and segments of Mike Malloy's show (and suffered delusions of elevatoritis as a result, but I perservered). All I wanted was my nightly three hours of fury from the left. Mike said everything I've wanted to say, much louder, and to a much louder audience. He tolerated ignoramus callers from Freepland, and wacko Christians, and deluded centrists, and put them all in their respective places. He spoke truth to power, and helped energize me, and thousands of others, to get out of bed and deal with another day in Dumbfuckistan.

He even read my writing on the air, both Veterans Day letters, that I archived and kept to play to my Dad who is such a luddite he can't turn on an electric typewriter.

But you whacked him, and in the process lost me as a listener. I am sure there are plenty of people who will love whatever you put in Mike's place, and those same people will no doubt tell me that I should give whatever that filler is, a shot. And maybe they are right.

But I won't. In fact, since AAR's first broadcast day I've found less and less reason to listen. Mike Malloy was the only thing holding my tenuous interest throughout the day. Sure, Al Franken is sort of funny, and Randi can be informative, I even listened to Jerry Springer for a bit, and the old Morning Sedition show. But you know, each step that AAR has taken towards the center has decreased my desire to listen. Mike was the anchor.

So I should thank you for removing the need I had to listen to three straight hours of informative, angry, funny, and cathartic talk radio every night. Maybe there weren't enough ads to support the show. Maybe there were stations complaining that he alienated their knuckle-dragging in-bred rethuglication asshats who complained rather than, say, changed the station. Maybe Mike said to much, to loud, to often.

But that's neither here nor there. You've seen fit to terminate our relationship. So be it.

Now, if I could be so kind as to repay the favor, please, accept this little token of my appreciation and my deepest regards. And don't forget, Apply Directly to the Forehead!

Sincerely,

Big McLargehuge

21. That was one of my first thoughts, also. Morning Sedition pissed me off
as well and now this! I even asked my spouse 'are the suits at AAR trying to kill liberal radio just so they can turn around and say that it couldn't survive or that was no market for it!'

Jeeze, if one doesn't want to listen change the station as I frequently do with some of the other AAR hosts. Just sayin'.

40. Turn on the HORN
Like many, I am feeling a great loss. The news of Mike Malloy's termination hit me like a size 13 right in the gut. While no one can adequately replace Mike there are other outlets, my choice is Bob Kincaid and the Head On Network. I will do all I can to get Mike back on the air but in the meantime we still need that voice in the dark. Mike will be back, somewhere!

In a BigMcLargeFUCKINGHuge way, I might add.

Anyone who couldn't feel the cathartic and theraputic effect of his gestaltic rants is, well, of a totally different mindset than I am. And not of one I would want to develop I might add.

Well done!

K&R for the Anger Man!

9. Now THAT was a rant!!
Well done!!!

Now, send an email to XM radio - Highvoltage@xmradio.com . This is XM 202 "High Voltage" and Opie and Anthony (the primary and, I think, only tenants on the channel) have control over the programming on it.

Request that they bring Malloy on uncensored and uncut!

Go on, get to it!!!!!!!!!!!!

What pin-striped pinheads convinced AAR they could get Great-Aunt Milly in Keokuk to tune in, except for--oh my--That angry Mr. Malloy!! She's in bed by the time Mike's on any-fucking-way.

Great letter about a wretched numb-nutty move.

Whomever picks him up will have an enormous, pre-built audience.

Shit! You could build a new station around him.

15. Great letter. AAR is gone from my bookmarks.
Anyone watch that HBO documentary about the foundind of AAR?

Remember what Michael Moore said when he visited them?

He was 110% correct. He said if liberals don't get angry and fight back, george bush is going to win again, and AAR is going to go out of business.

So AAR wants to cater to the DLC center? They've already lost. George Bush is STILL president, and they are STILL moving towards the center. It's only a matter of time before the 2nd part of that prediction kicks in...

and a big mouth who is not afraid to use it. I am not kidding. They could put Malloy and Molly Ivins and Jim Hightower and Sam Seder and Thom Hartmann and Peter B. Collins and Bobby Kennedy and Mike Papantonio (and Naomi Klein and David Sirota and Paul Krugman and Joe Conason because I think they'd be great on radio daily or weekly).
And Bill Moyers and yes, Dan Rathers (he needs the redemption) and Walter Cronkite.
Serious concerned people who know what they are talking about and are not afraid to say what they know.

Wouldn't that be so great?

20. I'm going to cross post my feelings because I don't feel like typing them
again:
I've listened to Malloy--I enjoy him. I'm not one of his usual fans because I don't listen with enough regularity.
I have a hard time listening in the evening and night.
However...I said this a long time ago. When Clear Channel starting snarfing up the AAR stations--it gave them clout. Enough clout to strongarm AAR into taking him and whoever else they want off of the air.
AAR is milquetoast these days...I don't listen nearly as much as I used to.
Our affiliate put Ed Schultz on in Randi's place...so my choices were Jerry, Al and then Ed. I'm not a centrist and I don't enjoy that particular programming.
It just seems that the center is taking front stage and the rest of us are being cast aside. So much for the fucking big tent.
I've read some say that the programming is designed to convert listeners.
I'm guessing that is what Rush does. :sarcasm:
How about a grand idea? Why not KEEP the left base energized?
Instead they want me to move to the middle to appease some ignorant ass Republican who will only vote against Republicans because his pocketbook has finally suffered...and not because it's the right thing to do.
The only thing I'll do is silently turn the dial on my radio.

22. Yep, I don't listen to Al Franken because of Al Franken. When I listen it
is because I want to hear Melanie Sloan, David Sirota, Tom Oliphant or well, I think that you get the picture. I then usually turn Al down or off. Do I want him gone from AAR? No, but I don't like to listen to him and I'm certain that he has a fan base. I would shoot my fucking satellite radio units that I paid quite a bit of money on before I would listen to Ed Schultz.

29. I'm sorry
I really am sorry. I love Mike Malloy, I think he is 100% on the the money, I wish we had unlimited access to him. But I can't listen to him in increments of more than about 15 minutes at a time without suffering an overwhelming urge to feed myself to rats. It's like amputating a gangrenous leg a millimeter at a time with a totally dull hatchet. I just can't do it. As correct and righteous as Malloy is, he is, without doubt, the most depressing person I've ever listened to. So blame me.

(Although AAR certainly metaphorically "shot themselves in the foot" when they dumped Morning Sedition IMO. This may prove the same in Malloy's timeslot.)

Rosco T's posted a thread here in GD that suggests that Malloy's firing may not yet be a done deal.

44. Don't get your hopes up
AAR's webpage is badly-managed. How many times have we had to deal with endless link loops on "signing in" before you listen to the webcast?

Although I do not want to take away hope. Just letting you know their webpage has never been exemplary.
