|
First a working definition of Centrist
White Suburban Mom who on social issues is of the View that it is nobody's business. and supports Gay Marriage.
But on Law and Order issues is convinced that people ought to pay for the crimes they commit and the juridical system has substantial problem in administering justice blindly. Supports Capital punishment. BUt would never allow a gun in her home.
Is CHurch-going but not fanatically. Believes in the Separation Clause but thinks the ACLU has taken it too far. Is generally pro-choice. but believes in parent notification and is opposed to Partial Birth abortion
On Iraq sees no linkage to terrorism but thinks it was important to send a message to the Muslim world, but that we should not be nation building. Dad got wounded in 'Nam....His Dad Served in WWII and is very patriotic.

1. If she voted for Bush last time she's an idiot |
|
I'll let others waste their time with her.

3. No matter what they call themselves |
|
Bush voters are not centrists. They are radicals and they've hurt this country.
To hell with them.

10. I didn't say write her off |
|
I just said that I wouldn't waste my time with her-
If she voted for Gore and then for Bush- after all that happened... well, lets just say someone else can bang their head against that wall.
Depending on the candidate and the state- I think time would be be MUCH better and more strategically spent courting other voters (first time and discouragd voters) rather than pandering to the whims of people with such mixed up and inconsistent beliefs.

8. Not sure from the info provided... |
|
but seems to be an average apathetic american. The political spectrum is so skewed these days with Rove and Murdoch in charge of labeling it is useless to try to identify anyone.

6. She can be won using economic issues...possibly |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 04:32 PM by Selatius
For example, if she wants better schools but also thinks property taxes are too high (What is this state, New Jersey?), then she could be won over on the issue by increased spending on education at the federal level. Local municipalities would not then be forced to raise land taxes or sales taxes to improve their schools.
What are her views on health care? Has she even heard the notion of universal health care? What's her views on fair trade vs. free trade?

7. A centrist can be anyone... |
|
Bets explanation I've heard (from a source I've forgotten): "Two centrists can disagree on every single issue, and still call themselves centrists."

The problem with labels is that one makes assumbotion that if a person believe AB & C thery must believe D or Because the believe D ABC are compeletely overlooked.
The fact of the matter is that most peopel are in the muddled middle and we do oursleves real harm if become politically dismissive if some one does not agree with a lockstep A-Z position. Running to the left or the right really slices up the middle in wierd ways.
