Stephanie Miller is the best thing on progressive radio |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 05:06 PM by ruggerson
Could give a rat's ass about the rest of them.
She actually shows how it's totally irresponsible to be a rightwinger to the average young person listening in.
You change people's minds with persuasion, wit, humor, common sense and humor.
And did I mention humor?
Not with angry ranting, night after night after night.

|
I was ready to dump Sirius, but I am gald I didn't now.
We have to remember that liberals are way behing the curve on the radio thing.. republicans got their ducks in a row after watergate and started buying up every station they could (and they were cheap back then). they put their massive plan into action virtually unchallenged by liberals, and we have a lot of catching up to do..
and until 2000, none of it really mattered much..
a lot of us got shaken awake..bigtime

She is on Jones Radio network and some AAR affiliates wisely carry her over AAR's choice for a liberal: Jerry Springer...

I can pull her in from Buffalo, on an old-fashioned radio. The kind that's free. XM? Sirius? that's for rich yuppies. Oh yeah, I forgot how many DUers are pretty freaking rich...

I have XM. Not rich at all. Not a "yuppie", either. XM is something like 12 bucks a month, and most deals give you a free receiver when you first sign up. How much do you pay for an internet connection?

That's what really matters. How entertaining is some suit and tie with no personality sitting there reading the news. I think she's even got a lot of rightwingers listening in to her show.

It sounds so crass to say she is the best 'thing' on progressive radio, its so much more respectful to say she is, in your opinion, the best 'woman. on progressive radio. You might even say she is the best announcer, but not a 'thing'.

I subscribe to her podcast and laugh my way to work! The people on the ferry I take from NJ to NYC think I am nuts, laughing my butt off.
I am also glad I kept Sirius after AAR was gone. Also like the Young Turks and Bill Press in the morning.

21. I love Stephanie Miller!! |
|
I recently signed up for her podcasts, which are well worth it. She and her two cronies really crack me up! And they cover a LOT of the news in a humorous and entertaining way. I love "Right Wing World" and the way they mercilessly mock Bush, O'Reilly, Rush, Pat Roberts, and all the other right-wing loonies. She has a lot of good guests too, including my favorite congressman, John Conyers, who just happens to be "the patron saint of the Stephanie Miller Show"!

.. Rush Limbaugh's angry rantings had nothing to do with successfully making "liberal" into a dirty word.
I support diversity in liberal radio. I think Ed Schultz gets a lot of swing-voter listeners that none of the rest of them will ever get. I like Stephanie's funny stuff, and Hartmann's clear, down to earth approach.
But I also think there is room for an angry ranter like Mike Malloy. I think there is a segment of the population, both liberal and conservative, who ARE angry and who can relate to anger.
I hope Mr. Malloy finds another venue. I'd love to hear him on Sirius TalkLeft, and they have a few hosts who really aren't doing much to change hearts and minds, take Alex Bennett who is too clever by half for example.

then you haven't listened to him. His schtick is that he thinks he's a humorist. Sure, he rants occasionally, but his entire persona is based on mocking liberals with what he would call humor and bite.

I just don't think he's analagous to Malloy. Maybe Michael Savage is more analagous to Malloy. Although I tend to think Savage doesn't believe the shit he spews and it's all an act and I do think Malloy is sincere in his anger.

... different strokes for different folks. The idea that we should proffer only one style of discourse is falacious. I would not want to listen to Malloy 24/7, but there is a place for his style of rhetoric at the progressive radio table.

|
Here in Dallas, they dumped Malloy entirely about 6 months ago, I think. They inserted Ed Shultz, then bumped back programming. When Malloy's slot was up (after midnight) they played Frankin re-runs.
The only one I consistently listen to is Rachael Maddaow (sp?) in the mornings. Funny, relevant, better than NPR (and I'm an NPR/BBC geek). I like Randi too, but she can be a bit inconsistent.

I can get her show in a bit on 1300 out of Framingham, Mass... it's always sharp, funny and entertaining.
While I think Al Franken is very smart and his show has some good humor, he is not a natural on radio like Miller.

38. She can be entertaining, but IMO not as informed as... |
|
She's entertaining if you like the morning talk radio formula that has become so popular now. To me, she doesn't seem to be as well informed as the AAR crew. Or perhaps it is because she is not as confrontational. When a wingnut calls spouting Bush talking points and lies I want a progressive radio host that debunks it on the spot. I'm not a daily listener, but what I have heard doesn't impress me.

I'm 50 in October so I guess I have to take that as an insult. Is it the use of humor that you don't agree with or her political positions which are very good IMO? Just like one of her calls she received this morning about the PNAC and bush policies, I suppose stuff like that is a waste of air time? There are still people out there that don't have a clue and her entertaining style may bring some of them in and expose them to the truth.
